  • I think Powel certainly wanted him at first but he thought he was too good. Just desserts.

CHARLTON boss Chris Powell has confirmed he wants to keep Michael Stewart.

The 29-year-old signed last month on a short-term deal after leaving Turkish side Genclerbirligi.

“I’d love to keep Michael but I don’t know if he feels his future is elsewhere,” said Powell.

“He is an all-round midfielder with good passing and is a decent tackler. Michael’s been brilliant - he knows the game and has got that bit of experience.”

  • More likely that by the time he returned we'd signed Hollands, Stephens, Euell, Pritchard and had enough central midfielders and certainly didn't need another on high wages.

I'm surprised he didn't find a club if only to keep fit and play a bit of football, I'd have thought that he'd get into most L1sides and quite a few in the CCC.

Thing is he thought he was better than League 1 & turned Powell down because "he could play at a higher level" & as somebody has already mentioned, when he found that nobody wanted him he came back to CP looking for a contract to be told he wasn't wanted here either. Glad we didn't sign him in the 1st place let alone when he came crawling back, just looked another average midfielder to me.
  • Didn't rate him that much to be fair. Would have Hollands, pritch etc over him any day.
