My older brother's a pretty unlucky away supporter. Two stories: he went to Sunderland one year and phones me from a phone box around half-time asking what the score is. I said, 'What do you mean, aren't you there?' Turns out he got off the train, realised he'd left his mobile on the seat, jumped on to get it, the doors close... next stop Edinburgh! He's phoning me from bloody Edinburgh to see how Charlton were getting on! We lost 3-2 I seem to remember.
Another one I remember was him at Portman Road. He'd decided to take a shortcut to the away stand and ended up cutting his head open on some wire fencing. You can just about see him on that season's DVD being led behind the goal by a St John's Ambulance man just as Lisbie scored.
I always liked his story about coming back on the train after one game or other and seeing Derek Hales legging it down the platform as the train began to pull away with two carrier bags full of beer.
PH - It makes the attendance seem even worse if the coach was £10. Remember parking near Anfield & walking through Stanley Park in Sunshine, feeling positive and thinking we'll stay up.
After we scored, I knew the footballing Gods were with us.
When they scored, I felt drained and waiting for relegation. Amazing how quickly things can change.
Jesus wept you take yourself too seriously. It was a genuine shout out to all of you who made the effort (I was 7 so didn't have enough money for a ticket), with a reference to the fact that our fans were massively outnumbered.
Have to say, I really don't like your response! Definitely not buying you a drink you miserable git.
Palace had restricted allocation on the last few visits if i remember correctly after the train incident and it was also set to a tuesday night for a few years, but hey Palace don't hate us right? they bring 3000 down to us on their last visit yet struggled to fill the top tier of The Den this year and Millwall are apparently are one of their main rivals, priorities messed right?
Palace's support at The Den is rubbish because they think they're going to get eaten alive.
But then they're more than happy to have nights out in the dump that is Croydon.
Does anyone have a link or copy to the picture that was posted a while back of Charlton fans away at Bristol City in the FA Cup a few decades ago? Been looking for a while now and can't find it.

Best away crowd ever is the 7 people who went to St Andrews for the Div 1 play-off replay against Leeds. I'm happy to buy you guys a drink for life.
Cool.

Result. Tell me where you drink on matchdays Jimmy.
I was one of the 40 odd. A rare coach trip as train was about a ton I think. My abiding memory
was the handful of Boro fans who clapped us out of the car park afterwards on our solitary coach. Their looks of pity said it all. I did a head
count during the game and made it about 60 odd. Then the official figure was given as nearer 200. I guess they
counted the directors, players' families and Marcus Bent who I recall contributed sod all on the pitch, as spectators.
I was going to make a banner with the words 'Operation Riverside: The return. Where is everybody?' But I didn't. It was humiliating enough anyway.
Remember thinking that was as low as it could possibly get..
Remember some depressing trips in the PL days. Went to Ewood Park twice in a fortnight. Cant have been many more than 150 there for the cup game.
