Our grounds to big for us

I know it might upset a few people but I think we should close the upper west, it's bloody deserted up there apart from the middle, time to save some money me thinks

  • I am an upper wester and don't disagree.  Although I am not sure it will be significant in cost,if we can herd the crowd closer together then there is a possibility that we could create a better atmosphere.  I would also close the sectors closest to the Jimmy Seed in both East and West stands

That said we have already sold ST's to the sections so I can't see it happen.

Have thought about this and think it would be a good idea to close perhaps Block A of the East and the first blocks of the lower and upper west closest to the Jimmy Seed. Would mean the stand has a fuller look and can't do any harm.

Not a massive issue I guess for the club but other clubs have done the same.

  • Make you right. Leeds did it and Southampton closed off corners. I also agree re: south ends of east and west. We could then close the south if we are expecting less than 300 away fans. Use the bartram entrance and stick them in the east.

Having said this there is a good chance that we wont need to close areas, they'll just be empty if our form since January continues.
  • I think this has been mentioned on another thread, I may be wrong but believe as we have the press gantry and the Vice Presidents club all seated up there we have to fully steward the stand.
  • As one of the volunteers who cleaned up last summer, closing areas of the ground would at least cut down on the workload!
  • close the corners and the jimmy seed, stick the away fans in the end of the east block, problem solved
  • Get a decent team and be top by Jan. That will solve the problem.
  • It may be worth mentioning that closing a block or two could also mean that advertising flags/sheets can be placed over the seats. Extra revenue ftw!
  • Perhaps target 40,000 or whatever it's now called needs to pull it's finger out ;0)

  • Better to close the north upper.

1 makes them all pay more in the east, west or Lower north so more income

    2. Spreads the singers around

  • I like it Henry , will live up the east and west stands!
  • Surely a better idea would be to close every other seat in every row of every block of every stand.

A nice, even distribution, more room to spread out the blanket and thermos, and if staggered by row correctly by the box office, there would be no 'bloke behind me' moaning about how much better it was under Phil Parkinson.
  • East stand Faithfull anyone next season cant see that being done tbh,

But has anyone ever tried starting another singing group in another stand? could help the atmosfear,

Keep it open. Bring on positivity and go for target 40,000 within 3 seasons.

And can someone sort out the title of this thread- ';Our ground's too big for us?'  Or 'Our ground's too big for us' Or 'Our ground's too big for us!'
  • people should be allowed to sit wherever they like the atmosphere will come back if the performances pick up ie the glory hunting fans will start flocking back like sheep.
  • Yeah, let's close the area with the best seats in the house and piss off the people that pay the most money.

Fcuk me, just the thought of sitting with the morons in the North Upper is enough to make me want to vomit.

What about a barrier with a steward standing next to it in front of the staircase?

I wouldn't close the North Upper as it'd ruin the atmosphere, and with the press gantry in the West Upper it'd be difficult to close that. Closing the Jimmy Seed and putting away fans in the East could work however with the number of extra stewards you'd need in the stand and on the concourse I don't know how much you'd save, at least the clean up costs would be cheaper. Personally I'd put away fans in one of the NE or NW corners.
  • How about we just leave it as it is as people have already looked in to this and made a decision?
  • We do seem to go round in circles on some issues . . .

There are limited savings to be made from closing sections of the grounds because potential emergency exit routes and gates have to be stewarded regardless. Many matchday costs, such as policing, traffic management and street cleaning, remain the same regardless of which stands you open, although they may vary based on other factors.

In our judgement any staff savings from closures would be more than offset by lost revenue from displaced season-ticket holders who would not relocate. We also use areas like Block A of the east and G/H of the west for various purposes, such as group sales and comps, that could not easily be relocated to prime seats because of the distribution of season tickets in the other areas.

In practice the most cost-effective areas to close are the lower west, the lower north and the east, because we could dispense with the perimeter gate stewards, but the savings are not particularly significant and the effect would be substantial.

The licensing authority, on police advice, would not allow us to accommodate visiting supporters elsewhere because of the segregated access to the Jimmy Seed Stand, and the need for shared evacuation routes - and the cost of stewarding would go up, not down.

If there were substantial savings to be made we would make them, but we are not planning for failure.

  • Well done DRAWNABLANK, some positive thinking amongst a lot of nonsense. Put the right team on the pitch and get the right style of play, simples !
  • Those of you in Tne North upper would not like  the presecence of all those kids for a quid ruining the atmospher there,or the complete strangers whojust term up for a football match. They know nothing of the team or any of the club songs which is why the west upper always seems so quiet, but those of us who have had a seat there for 12 season actualy like the view of the game from there and would hate to move.

I sit in block q west upper.
