I have read a previous book and think it would have been good to see Sam play. Reading the book did give you the impression he was an entertainer who thought nothing of going on a dribble up the pitch - sometimes with regrettable consequences which may not have endeared him to the England management and could explain why he was never capped. Everybody loved and respected him and you get a sense he was a bit special.
