Charlton Life End of Season Thanks - 2010/11

Well as we all know, a dire Charlton season is traditionally never fully complete until we dish out our annual list of thank you’s.

The forum once again so further growth over the last season, with pageviews rising 10% to 12.4m, and the number of unique visitors to the site rising 48% to 252k. January 4th and the sacking of Parky was our most popular day of the season, with 4,735 unique visitors generating 102,842 pageviews, the first time we topped the 100k mark. The forum was read in 181 countries, a 11% rise.  The average time spend on the site per visit was 11 minutes, with the average amount of pages visited per visit 7.5.

Our fundraising challenge for the season was on behalf of the Charlton Upbeats appeal, where we raised £4,000. Many thanks to everyone who pledged money or prizes, and a number of Lifers helped with the organisation. However WSS led the process flawlessly and deserves special recognition. Congratulations to all the prize and dinner winners. I was fortunate to win a place for the dinner and it was humbling to see the good work the Upbeats team undertake, and made us all very proud of our collective contribution.

Our annual player sponsorship request was brilliantly received, with 103 lifers pledging just shy of £2k. It enabled us to sponsor 5 players.
Huge thanks goes to Curb It for all her efforts in co-ordinating the sponsorship, the dinner places, the prizes, collecting money (threatening people!) and congratulations to all you lucky prize winners. Its a great way we provide financial help to the club and i know is well appreciated.

Red Midland, ably assisted by Paddy P17, did a sterling job throughout the season with the match threads. Sadly there wasn’t enough victories we would have hoped for, but i know its very much appreciated by those not at the games, particularly the ex-pats.

Shirty5 continued to do a fine job with compiling the Predictions League, with 179 participants this season. Having previously compiled it, i know what an onerous task it can be. Congratulations to Supaclive for joining the Hall of Fame.

Lancashire Lad was kind enough to takeover the Statbank from me when i was struggling for time, and has done a sterling job compiling a staggering 17,600 player marks over the course of the season. Look out for the bumper edition of season stats over the next week.

Cardinal Sin was kind enough to dispel the myth of the CL badges by getting 100 produced from ‘this bloke in China’. Thanks to the Cardinal, and 86 of you who have so far parted cash (reluctantly in some cases) which will help contribute towards site maintenance costs. Its much appreciated, and many more than i originally thought we would offload.

Thanks to WSS and Henry Irving for the excellent match previews, which continue to improve in quality imo, and also HI's help in compiling the Valley Party commemerative articles.

Thanks to Threadkiller, Johnny Bev, Alex Wright and Sadie for taking lead on the CL Poker Club, with tournaments now so frequent there is one held every 42 minutes :-)

Due to us both suffering from young familyitus and severe increase in work pressures, moderating and maintaining the forum over the last year has proved particularly challenging, our toughest year yet in that sense. Thanks to WSS for his help with certain aspects, and once again a huge apology to anyone impacted by the security problems in April. We have done everything we can to restore a safe, user friendly platform, and while what we currently have isn’t fully ideal, we are actively aiming to bring continued improvements over the next few months.

Charlton Life will be five years old in July. It would be great to mark the occasion some how, so if anyone has any ideas, please email me at afka01@googlemail.com.

Have a great summer
Danny (AFKA) and Adam (Lookout)
