Parkinson to join Arsenal as assistant manager?

edited May 2011 in General Charlton
The 43-year-old coach, who was sacked by the Addicks earlier this season and has also had spells at Hull and Colchester, is wanted as part of a shake-up of Gunners' coaching staffhttp://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/05/12/2483019/arsene-wenger-lining-up-former-charlton-manager-phil
Odd Choice if true

  • I don't find that odd at all to be honest.

He only has to replace Pat Rice!

  • I'll believe it when it's on the (Arsenal) OS but can you imagine the melt down on here if it was true : - )
  • I like Parky

He deserves better than being sworn at by Wenger from March - May

  • As I said on another thread 3 weeks ago :0)

  • Would be funny if Arsenal went on to finally win things now. Parkinson would be likened to a Carlos Queiroz etc.

Not a bad move for him at all
  • Good for him if it's true
  • Had it confirmed to me yesterday that he is doing "bits and bobs" for Arsenal so obviously getting his feet under the table

Maybe being an assistant manager is his calling

  • Good luck to him!!
  • Good luck Parky, hope they treat you better at Arsenal than at CAFC
  • Pat Rice is due to retire soon so it may be true

  • assistant manager in the club shop praps?
  • I had this confirmed by a well informed Arsenal fan weeks ago - along with the Jenkinson to Arsenal rumour.

  • Good luck to him. Would certainly be a big career move for him and give him a great springboard for another shot at being a "number one" in a few years time if he wants to.
  • McCormack and Fabregas would make a formidable midfield pairing.
  • Good luck to him if it's true. I've got nothing against him whatsoever and thought he was treated pretty shoddily by the CAFC board. Hope he's got better eyesight than Wenger. Perhaps he's being hired to point out all the stuff that Wenger hasn't seen - like his back five!
  • I didn't say it was necessarily a bad choice but hadn't seen any concrete evidence showing that he was already working for arsenal or had previous with Wenger, if true then yeah i wish him the best.
  • he will get them playing football thats for sure..
  • Wow, 17 posts in and the standard Parky discussion hasn't got under way.  This is progress.
  • Sir Phil

  • @Uboat

    well it has now...
  • Wenger likes a yes man apparently so he should fit in well.

  • He'll also be able to advise on mixing it up a bit all that fancy football gets you no where, knock it long, get in the box, why pussy foot around with the ball. Should go down well with the Arsenal faithful.

Iwelmo up front for the Gooners next season ?
  • Good call Starinnaddick and as I said on another thread may be he could recommend a full back and midfielder to them whom he rates by the names of Francis and McOxo
  • Pathetic. Why do people still feel the need to dig him out.
  • Cant seem to remember too many fans chanting his name whilst he was in charge ISLS can you? Which is a first for me with any of our managers since the 1960's. Its deep rooted I'm afraid.

Plenty of fans tried to get behind him at away games. Unfortunately The Valley hasn't been a very nice place for circa five seasons now, if not a bit more.
  • No it's not. Parky had 50% of the crowd other 50% are blind and couldn't see what little funding we had.
  • My schoolmaster always warned me I'd go blind if I didnt stop playing with myself.
