Was exciting last season when he played - but even then, the signs were there. Typical winger in many respects, but even more inconsistent than the ones we've had in the past. This year I thought he'd be as good for us as Newts was the year we got promoted first time round, but he's been pretty pants most of the times I've seen him.
Not sure this is totally good news. Hhe hasn't delivered this year, but we have to ask ourselves why we were all so excited to have signed him last summer yet a year later glad to see him gone?
Reidy doubtless has to take some blame for it not working out but perceived wisdom was that his form suffered because his confidence was shot and that CP was just the man to put an arm around his shoulder and get the best out of him. Hasn't really worked out has it? That's not necessarily a great testiment to our shiny new coaching team.
I suspect Reidy will take a few more years to fully mature but he'll do well for someone, somwhere and can be added to the growing list of talented but inconsistent wingers that we totally failed to make good use of over the 5 to 10 seasons.
Good. Now he'll have plenty of time to work on his new threads while he's not being paid by us to first and foremost keep himself in shape, form and be a professional footballer.
Hmm...kind of what I expected to happend TBH. Not sorry to see him go because he failed to live up to expectations IMO. There may well be a great footballer in there, but we only ever saw glimpses of him. He may go on to be great somewhere else...but then again, maybe he won't.
Does this mean that news is now starting to seep out regarding who has been wished well and shown the door and who is going to be on board for project Powell next season?
I can't wait to find out, because that is going to tell us a great deal about the type of financial clout that our new owners will be wielding this summer.....
I remember earlier in the season he was easily our best player. Then he twisted his ankle and was out for a few weeks, Jackson took over LM and scored 15 goals and he never got a look in, when he did he looked a player with a serious lack of confidence.
Wish him well, just not when he plays us again ;-)
It will be interesting to see whether he goes up or down the leagues. He moved to us because he couldn't settle in the north . As a natural leftie we will need some cover for Jacko .
I could see him ending up somewhere like Watford and doing well
Was he really our best player at one stage? Twist and turned a few times.Couple of half decent crosses.I'd say that summed up his Charlton contribution.
Talent there for sure but I think he lacks intelligence as a footballer. Continually made bad choices. Was chuffed when we signed him but somehow Reidy never got out of second gear.
Reidy spent all his early career in and around Premiership footballers at West Ham, but couldn't establish himself there. Okay, it's hard for youngsters to make a name for themselves in the Prem, when first they often have to dislodge an experienced international.
Next stop, dropped a division at Sheff Utd ........... failed to live up to expectations. Couldn't establish himself there either.
On loan at Charlton, dropped to the third flight. Blew hot and cold, but occasionally very effective.
Returned in the summer, tipped to take the division by storm. Started well enough, but then after injury found himself displaced tactically. Unfortunately for Reid, not only did we look a better team without him, results also improved during a decent unbeaten run.
New manager, new tactics, new chance for everyone - including Reid.
Did he finally prove that he was indispensible to the team? Hardly, he rarely showed the hunger, determination and focus that is the hallmark of every footballer that succeeds.
I'll wish you luck, Kyle ....... but if you really do want to be a top professional footballer, you'll have to show more dedication than you currently do.
It'll be interesting to see who replaces him, even with Jackson we'll need another option on the left.
Reid finished with 2 goals and 7 assists (however only 1 and 4 in the league). That's not terrible for someone that wasn't a regular starter.
We could have definitely got more out of him, and another club probably will at some point. Though we've seen in the last year in a weaker team he's probably not as good we hoped he was.
Of course we don't know what has or happened off the pitch that might have made up Powell's mind, but I'll be disappointed if we let him go and bring in a replacement that isn't an improvement.
Makes me wonder if Powell believes we'll get a better quality of player or it's down things like attitude and character (or even fitness?). Reid wasn't lazy but was never great at tracking back and didn't often last 90 minutes.
Not surprised really promised so much like so many when they first arrive but flattered to deceive in the end. Agree with OGGY he cant keep looking tor a fresh start and needs to buckle down.
Not sad to see him leave. It made me laugh how Reid was loved by the majority of our fans throughout the season but Waggy who chips in with10 goals and shows more effort is given such a hard time.
Michael Slater said in his Saturday programme notes, that the very least he expects from a Charlton player is commitment, etc.
There's no doubt in my mind that Kyel Reid has the footballing ability.
So either he really didn't want to stay at Charlton or he was shown the door. I can only conclude there may have been a question of commitment/attitude.
I shouldn't think it's possible to get down as low as Rochdale's budget even if we tried to put a team out from the players under contract without signing any new deals whatsoever. Their wage bill is less than a third of ours.
I don't take anything for granted, but I don't really understand the negativity about the prospects for player investment. What basis is there to think the playing budget is going to be slashed in that way?
Powell said, last night that he knew Kyell well, from when they were together at W Ham. On the basis that he said he needed to talk to Kyell, but didn't say that he wanted him to stay, personally I would expect him to go. Especially as Chris wants stronger committed players.

Not sure where they have got their story fom - heard myself tonight that Chris Powell has yet to speak to Reidy.........
.............however, not saying that the story may not be true !!!

He will return to haunt us.
