What Slater actually said was he wanted a team that could compete in the Championship-
"This summer will be a very important period for the club. We will start next season with financial security and proper foundations for the future. The last piece in the current jigsaw is a squad that will produce the sort of performances you expect and that should win promotion to the Championship.
"Tony Jimenez and I believe that the team Chris creates should be able to not only win promotion, but compete in the Championship.
"Norwich City have this season proved that this is possible and I wouldn't be surprised if Southampton do something similar next term.
"That has to be our next objective. There is a gulf between the Premier League and the Championship, but only a small gap between the Championship and League One.
Priorities are a new keeper, left back, 2 centre backs, centre midfield (not just a water carrier but someone who chips in with 12+ a season), left midfield and a striker.
No pressure then.
Would also like an experienced coach to come in under Powell, think Dyer might have been the wrong choice personally.
I though Waghorn was really highly rated when we got him on loan, Sunderland though he was their next big thing. And the few times I watched Leicester on FLS he was playing.
Dont know - out of contact? face don't fit with Sven? better players in front of him? I'd have him but could we afford him and would he drop down to L1? possibly for CP who knows him
I'll add another customary 'player-who-used-to-play-for-us-but-isn't-good-enough-now' suggestion - how about Andy Todd, who has just been released by Oldham? Perhaps more players getting in fights is what we need?
Helguson might not be a bad shout actually.....Hobbs & Waghorn might well be worth a look as well, but there may well be quite a bit interest in them both.
Oh my God,
Andy Todd,
What a fractious sod.
Sorry, about that....the horror of contemplating that made me go poetic for a while there!

Jack Hobbs would be interesting...
I woudl say he is the sort of CB we need. CP might be bale to swing it as well.

What's happened to him?

Martin Waghorn & Jack Hobbs are being released by Leicester City - CP must be able to influence them to come?
Get them both... Waghorn and BWP up top would be lethal
CP tried to sign Jack Hobbs on loan but he got a better offer from Hull.
Nigel Pearson was his previous manager and he may well try and sign him on a permanent basis.
I agree he would be a very good signing for us.

If we have money to spend on players in contract, Richard Lee at Brentford would be one I would look at
