CP's comments on loanees

What's all this nonsense about 'having to look after them' as their clubs' seasons aren't finished yet? Aren't we paying to have them on board? Whose interests in CP looking after here? If he'd just said, 'last game, nothing to play for, chance to give our youngsters/own boys a run out' that'd be fine but this revelation is yet another example of CP's utterly unconvincing press statements. I so desperately wanted to see him to do well but his post-match comments have been such tripe that I really worry whether he has what it takes to instill confidence and a winning mentality into a squad. Results clearly show not so I just hope that there is some hidden managerial talent there somewhere that we haven't seen yet and that the 'poor' media briefings should be taken with little more than a pinch of salt.

  • Credit to CP for recognising that you need to look after all players including loanees.  It's important that when we borrow a player from another club that they (both the individual and the club) get something in return.  If we are seen as users, it will be much more difficult to persuade others to come.  Of course you need some balance in this and we can't afford to ignore our own youngsters, but I think Powell addressed this very well by playing both Solly and Harriott yesterday.

If you listen to the post match conferences by most managers, a lot of what they say is nonsense.  It's not designed to motivate the team, they are on the hoof responses to dumb questions in order to fulfil contractual obligations to media companies who can't get enough because the fans can't get enough.  It must be a minefield for managers not to say the wrong thing.  The only time when it's going to be easy is when the team is winning consistently.  If you're judging a man on this, you're judging him on the wrong thing.
  • Hong Kong Fooey ?
  • I can't fault CP for not playing them if he wanted to use our lads but then say so. Coming up with that baloney really makes me wonder. We're paying their wages (or at least part) so their clubs' seasons shouldn't be a factor. How much game time are Parrett and Ecclestone going to get anyway when they return?

Any manager who doesn't fully utilise the media these days to get his message across to the fans is a fool. I just worry that the anodyne and meaningless drivel that CP comes out in press conferences with is an indication of what is being said at training sessions to the players.

No one knows who Hk Phoey is out here unless you grew up in UK in the 70s.
