To be honest I was there in body but not particularly in spirit at the end I felt pretty indifferent whereas normally I'm either happy or disappointed.

    Maybe it's just me.

Wonder if only just snatching mid table mediocrity from the jaws of a play off place have something to do with it? Know how ya feel...........
  • [cite]Posted By: grumpyaddick[/cite]Never criticised Saint Christopher before and I support his attempts to play decent football but I detected distinct dithering and lack of balls today which concerns me.

If that is the case then he needs to grow some and quick, as we need him to be bold and decisive from May.
  • [cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]Expected worse, ok performance but ultimately another defeat.

    This.

Never mind the why's and wherefore's. We lost (again).

That is now 1 win in 15 games. At this level that is pathetic.

at the end of the day I have to agree with this, however I did think we played very well today, especially in the 2nd half, when it ain't going for you it really ain't going for you eh !
  • Yet another set of fans saying they played well enough to get something from a game against us! If I had a tenner for very time that's been said in our 21 game unbeaten run I'd be in the 'Iron Bird' to Frisco in the morning. However, what does it tell you? The 'will' to win and being totally focused brings its rewards?

No doubt we've ridden our luck many-a-time but hey...there's such a things as positive energy and thank 'The Lord' it looks like we've tapped into it at just the right time.

    Yeah bye
  • First game ive seen since Bournemouth away, and impressed with the work rate today. If we played like that against the so called lesser sides in the last 15 games, then the play offs would be not to far away.

Good to see players wearing a Charlton shirt with pride.

Well I wasnt standing next to Chris Powell, but I didnt detect any dithering or lack of balls. Maybe grumpy can elaborate.

Making Doherty a third striker was IMHO a bad decision, but it took some balls...
  • Semedo and Stewart in the miidle worked... racon on the left didnt
  • Not great, but a darn site better than a few weeks ago. We are starting to look like a football team. Can finally see what is happening in training. However, slow with the subs, should have replaced Stewart
with Ecclestone. Put Racon in the middle and Ecclestone wide left. IMHO

disagree, Racon was having a mare and putting him in the middle wouldn't have made any difference (imo).
  • Racon didn't 'have a mare' he just had a very different game to that of late as Huddersfield had clearly identified him as our key man as they closed with 2 or 3 players every time he got the ball, the same way they had clearly identified getting behind Bessone as our weakness
  • Deserved a draw.Liked the Semedo,Stewart pairing.Good pressing from all the players. No one was hiding.Waggy was better but still has to improve his first touch. He looked stronger and was effective when cutting through the middle.Bessone started badly but improved and covered the two centrals well.Noticed how quick he is.Benson was lively and in BWP we have a class act.Starting to slowly look like a team again.
  • There's been a few comments about Sullivan not setting up the wall correctly and being at fault for the goal. I was there and initially thought that the ball went around the wall and then he was probably at fault, but seeing the TV coverage, you can clearly see the end man breaking away from the wall and the next player moving to his right to avoid being hit - this is Reid by the way, with his freeking hands up again. This picture is on the OS. Don't actually think that the keeper would have seen the ball until it was almost past him. With regards to Reid - why is he even in the wall if he is scared of being hit by the ball? It was his handball from the previous free kick where he was protecting his looks!
  • Very good game
The best 3 players on the pitch were the Two centre halfs and the goalkepper for Huddesfield and looked a league above
played very well, looked like we played with shape in our team,
i fort Powell let the game get away from us, with out a couple of subs but they got a get out of jail card
  • i thought this was a decnt game against a good side and we should have got something from the game. huddersfield definately the second best team we have played this year and looked better than sothampton .
Still room for improvement but some very encouraging performances partic Solly Waggy and Benno. Like to see more of Stewart before I make my mind up but could be useful. Semedo got through his bad run and look decent again.
Play like this for the last 4 games and we will finish on a high
  • Sullivan played well & looked assured, but he lost us the game by not ensuring that we had a wall with enough men in it & correctly positioning the wall.
The wall was too short & protecting the middle of the goal, instead of one side of the goal. They had clear straight shot either side & I thought they would score, before the guy even hit it.
Hit it straight and hard and it was always going to go straight in. Shame.

Someone said earlier that the wall broke and it went through the space that Reid had been in, if that is the case then no way Sullivans fault.

And it was a cracking strike (havent seen a replay mind)

    It was a bullet!!!

  • It was a cracking strike, straight down the hole that Sullivan left. He could have hit it straight the other side of the wall as well.
Just watched it again twice. Straight hit past the wall. If the wall was lined up to protect that side it would have hit the wall.
Like I say , shame as Sullivan gave me more confidence, than anyone else who has played in goal for us this season.

Probably my vote for most dissapointed player of the season for me. I was delighted when he joined us, now he looks lost to me!.......
Cannot make my mind up if Huddersfield were little more than average, or we played well as a team!. What is for sure they are very fortunate to be second in this league, and underlines my theory that this is a very poor league!. Yes we deserved a point, but Doherty up front look like desperation to me!..... Our set plays and corners still look feeble to me!.... and of course we conceed fron one of there free kicks.
  • "Well I wasnt standing next to Chris Powell, but I didnt detect any dithering or lack of balls. Maybe grumpy can elaborate."

I have no special knowledge of St Chris's balls but I was sitting with a (neutral) mate who thought we had Huddersfield on the back foot around the hour mark and it was time for us to press home the advantage and get the crowd going.

Nouble did'nt start warming until about the 70 mins mark. Then there were long discussions with Sir Keith. Then Nouble disappeared and Reid started warming up. By the time Reid was on the opportunity had passed and Huddersfield were looking comfortable again. Hence the comment about dithering.

Sitting in mid table mediocrity, I dont know what he was afraid of. Winning or losing?

When they scored on 82 minutes he looked suspiciously like a bunny in the headlights when we could have just gone for it.

Very reluctant to criticise and I am behind the Lord (Curbs) chosen one but these substitution decsions are critical to winning tight games and sometimes you have to take a risk. "He who dares" and all that.
  • Poor game. First half was total kak and second a bit better. Neither team deserved to win it.

The games seem 4 hours long at the moment ---or is it the season.

    Surprised 15,800 made the effort

    Racon--- just go.

Sounds like he discussed the situation in some depth with Keith Peacock.
Possibly Reid coming on instead was a direct result of that discussion, Grumps?

Powell taking advice from an experienced and wise old head?
I wouldn't see anything wrong with that.

I'll say it again - the wall broke and the lst man came out leaving the gap which got even bigger when Reid ducked. No way was that Sullivan's fault. He did not order that hole in the wall!
  • Jamie McCombe our centre back who'd lined up the wall, shoved one of your defenders to one side and it left a hole for Joey to exploit and he did just that! Think you got mugged I'm afraid. My comment's based on this Youtube clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0Cl1erJrvA

It looks like we lined up the wall, and left a gap which an udder filled and then stepped away, shifting the player to his left leaving a bigger hole, definetly poor defending, not sure about the keeper.

Thanks for the footage Acetripper Good luck
