Valley clean up?

edited April 2011 in General Charlton
Maybe its just me.
But the valley has seen better days. For example the stairs at the north lower/NE quad have what looks like mould on them, the walls of the west stand turnstyles too.
Not to mention usual seat cleaning job, and I am sure the people at the club could suggest more places that are in need of a tidy up.
Maybe the club could ask fans to get involved again? During pre-season or something.

I would be happy to do so, and fans usually react well to such requests.

  • Yes, the seats were very dusty at the start of the season - but since them we have cleaned them with our backsides.
  • It may have seen better days, but there's absolutely no doubt that it's seen a hell of a lot worse.

In fact I would hazard a guess that if you took the years since we first started playing there as 100%, the way the ground looks now is probably in the "best" 5% element.
  • Blimey Jarman you picky b*stard! I've got to say I haven't noticed anything that has even remotely concerned me hygiene wise. You obviously didn't go to the Chesterfield away game in the league cup the other year when the urinal was an open air wall to piss against...

Nothing wrong with that. Had been going to football for about three or four years before I realised that not all football khazis were a trough at the bottom of a brick wall - and that some of them even had a roof!
  • No agreed off it, I must say I enjoyed the experience... but nonetheless it does serve to emphasise that our stadium is on the whole pretty spick and span in the scheme of things. Too clean if anything, I think I'd prefer it if it wasn't so modern!
  • All of the rubbish is on the pitch, not off it
  • Jarman - you should know that constructive critism and wanting to do something positive is likely to get shouted down from many. There are a lot worse but if we want to be the best and make everyone proud of our club .......
  • I agree with Jarman. There are plenty of things that need attention such as toilet doors that shut, hand driers that work and the lack of a decent handwash.
  • Good idea.

  • Ashtrays in the north upper toilets would be a nice touch. Readings old ground elm park? Had to ask a steward where to piss as had never seen an roman esque open sewer pisser it was grim, i was 15.

No, Off_it is rubbish as well ;-)
  • Thanks for the helpful post, Henry.
  • Does anybody know if the club could be organising something similar to this over the summer?
  • A loud buzzer on the wall next to the food kiosks in the upper north stand so we can wake up the brain dead staff , maybe then they will pour a few pints out before the halftime whistle.
  • All I can see that might need doing to make it look better is the badge on the back and the discoloured seats
  • High tables would help for people to stand their pints on.
Rubbish bins for people to put their rubbish in.
Why can't we smoke outside ffs?
Caterers who employ English speaking staff and sell edible food.
    Costa Coffee would be great.....................

Spot on there...roofs on toilets are a modern thing.
  • I would like to fix cup holders to all of the seats so we can put our beers in them whilst we watch the game.........

    Don't forget ashtrays as well
  • I was down there for the card / airplane thing at the end of the season and the stadium does look very tired up close. Lots of flaking paint, bleached seats, rusty bits etc.
  • I was there too PL54.

You sure you're not describing me ????

Can we not have blankets and hot water bottles distributed to the East and West stand? It does get a bit chilly in the winter.

You'll be needing Valley Express for those.
  • Sometimes you couldn't have a piss in peace in the khazi near the old Sam Bartram gate because of kids (and others) bunking in over the wall.
  • Half-time during an evening game in the Winter. There was an aura above those toilets when the floodlights were on!
