i thought parkys attempt to keep us up in the championship was absolutley pathetic but the rest of his tenure was reasonable, excluding his handling of jonjo and yes he was a nice man

[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]And he can't be all that bad if Steve Rowley, properly the most respected and longest serving Chief Scout in England, has recruited him.
not been confirmed as yet though has it, all pure conjecture.

Surely the most pointless job in football. As if Wenger is going to sign any young talent from up north. They only sign youngsters if they're French, african, poached from Barca or already a young star (Walcott, Ramsey)
Chris, you're right about Wenger and I think they're trying to balance it a bit. Arsenal have always been shrewd in their investments, Parky has looked at so many games when he was with us that he's bound to have developed an eye for a bargain. Before I trigger an uproar, for those of us who are sceptic about his 'bargains', remember the budget he was given to bring in players was ZILCH. He did find a few players with nothing so altough we have a lot to say about his coaching, give him some credit for that. Might even end up being a top scout, best of luck to him if info is correct.
[cite]Posted By: Friend Or Defoe[/cite]Excluding strikers, McOxo and Francis he's pretty decent at spotting a player. I wish him well.
We have had 2 decent players at our club in the last 2 years - Jonjo who Parky didn't think was good enough for League1 but was signed by Liverpool and Jenkinson who is off to Arsenal but we spent money on Francis instead of playing him - he must have a great eye for a player...good luck to Arsenal is what i say

Francis to Arsenal?
Agreed
No, only expenses. Unless you are the Chief Scout or Youth Development Officer. They are usually full time.
Some clubs used to pay a bonus on signings you may have discovered. Not sure if thats the case these days.
and excluding Reid.
You can't judge a manager's ability to spot talent only on who he actually signs when he's working under severe financial constraints.
He wasn't perfect, he made mistakes but he found some gems too.

I'll ring Phil and ask him : - )
