Dailly: I want to stay at Charlton

  • I'm not convinced that giving him another year as a player would be a good move - I do think his age is becoming an issue. If the club could afford to employ him as a player/coach I would have no problem with that. I do agree though, that finding a suitable replacement is going to be difficult.
  • I do wish people would ignore hiis age when looking at his speed. He is NOT slow for a centre half. He's a made few more mistakes than last season definately but for me would still be one of our building blocks for next year. His attitude and professionalism will also be of real benefit to our youngsters
  • Sign him up again - he's quicker than our other 3 centre-backs and looks one if the fittest players in the team
  • I feel with all the attitude in our squad from the likes of Ecclestone and BWP and all the "ghetto" lads that we need a good old fashioned British centre half to keep them in line. On and off the pitch.
  • I don't think the issue is Dailly's speed over a distance where he can still more than match most at this level but I'm not sure about his speed over 1 to 2 yards. That said Dohery and Fortune don't appear to have either type of speed.
  • Half year contract or perhaps a pay as you play deal could be a good move.
  • fitnees and speed are not the problem, but when your head tells you that you can do something that the body doesnt react to in the speed that it used to it is time to go.

i aint saying this is happening regularly yet but it is happening keep him as cover but make it clear, 2 CH's are a must for a team looking for promotion next season
  • [cite]Posted By: Bangkokaddick[/cite]Our manager, of all people, should be a good judge as to whether Dailly can play another season.

Exactly ... and I reckon he will give Dailly another season

Definitely keep Dailly. He's by far our best centre half. He is NOT slow. That is complete bolloc*s.
He has not performed quite as well this season because he has been trying to keep together his co defenders who have been about as reliable as a chocolate tea pot !
Francis & Fry have been very very poor & Doherty hasn't been a whole lot better. Rio Ferdinand would've struggled in the same situation.

[cite]Posted By: Red5[/cite]I like the bit where he says: “As long as you can still run fast, you can still play.”

Really? Looking a bit slow to me Dailly.
Not last night he didnt, he gave their sub striker a 3 yard head start at one point and beat him to the ball on the east stand touchline.

I think he's quick as show by his marauding runs forward. Concentration now and again is a problem - fitness certainly is not.

I noticed that as well - amazing really for a 37 year old in the last 10 mins of the game up against a young black athlete who had only played half a game. i think Dailly is of a different class to the rest. I think 20 years or so ago you would have had a lot more of his class playing in the second or third division and at a younger age - maybe early 30's. The top division players don't drop down the leagues generally any more because they are loaded so when one does you really notice him - this is probably one of the reasons we haven't been able to get a class midfield act who's maybe just gone past his peak because they just don't need to do it any more. 20 years ago the likes of scholes would be looking for a couple of years lower down (not as low as we are now) - ain't gonna happen now - he'll play less and less games then retire and the quality in the lower divisions suffers as a result.

  • I've thought, all season, that the greatest defensive problems have been at full-back. Get the FBs right and the pressure on the CBs is reduced. Perhaps Solly and Bessone, if they can stay fit, will amend this.
  • Deserves another season at this level. Will be in the top two for Player of the Season.
  • There are a lot of successful Scottish Managers, and before CP was appointed I was hoping that we might find one. I think some Club could do well to groom him into their coaching team, why not us ?
  • As back up maybe, as a first choice CB please no.
  • Dailly is good enough, and easily fast enough. He's made a few more mistakes this year because the whole defence has been put under more pressure this year. I'd give him another contract for sure. His wage 'package' wouldn't be as high as it would be if he had an agent, so that's a plus too.
  • Dailly is still my player of the season at the momemt, although he has not been as good as last season.
IMO his only rivals are Jackson & Semedo.
You can't include BWP as he hasn't played most of the season & you can't include Anyinsah as he's hardly played a full game.
I'd rule Jackson out, because he's missed a load of games and although he gives balance to the team & has scored a lot of goals, most of his appearances have looked pretty average.
That leaves Dailly or Semedo and I'd give it to Dailly as Semedo has also not been as good as last season, he's not scored (I think) and is far too negative.
    Dailly 1st , Semedo 2nd.
  • Dailly knows what he's doing: you can't go far wrong with that much experience. So what of his age? He is quick enough, though I reckon that if he's around next season he'll lose some pace and we'll be playing with a slightly deeper defensive line. He keeps himself in as good condition as possible - remember, David Weir is still around, and he's 41 in May - and I reckon that he (Dailly) has at least one, if not two, decent seasons left in him.
  • Dailly can play two more years at this level. Our fullbacks have been atrocious. His distribution is good and if needed would be able to cover as last man in midfield as a double stopper.
  • With the right man beside him maybe he can do one more year. Id rather someone else as captain though as he doesn't seem to encourage enough on the pitch, esp the younger players.
