Johnnie Jackson (ed. out for season)

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
He isn't the brighest spark ever, but he has got us 13/14 goals this season. And since's he's been out of the squad, we haven't won, woulda helped to have had him take the penalty against Notts County! I dunno if it is physchological to our players, but he has been consistant throughout the whole season!

  • Yes, we do seem to be missing the balance he gives although apart from the goals - you don't see too much of the other parts of his game. Mind you - goals can be the difference between winning in losing in tight games!
  • Jackson, in my opinion is the one of the only players with a good vision! He can pass and makes moves from the back? WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? When he plays he does have a spark even if it is a small one!
  • Yes, agreed- probably would be good to see him in a more central role.

Agreed he'd be quite a good player maker in my eyes, but BWP wouldn't win much in the air as his not the biggest of the bunch! So it would have to be more direct passing :-)
  • Jacko is quality and we have suffered without him.
  • I think he is also more 'professional' than some other players in that regardless of form of team-mates or wherever he may personally be he will keep playing his way to the best of his ability. Maybe level-headed is a better word.
  • As well as his goals he also has 3 assists in League One this season.
  • I think we've missed him bigtime , he's our top Charlton scorer this season , excluding BWP , i reckon he's on his way out of the door to Brighton , and maybe this injury business is a smokescreen , i hope not.
  • I think since the notts county game we have not had a left side at all, mostly right footed players or Matt fry and a totally out of sorts Kyle Reid.

So we are so skint we can't afford to play Jackson in case he gets injured and messes up a multi million pound swoop from Brighton in four months time ?

That seemed to be the position with Jonjo last year reading between the lines.

Racon didn't deserve to be selected above him for any other reason.

Well, he can't play for anybody else until next season.
  • CHARLTON boss Chris Powell is refusing to take any risks by bringing Johnnie Jackson back too soon from his Achilles problem.

The 15-goal Addicks midfielder has missed the last seven matches with the injury and there are fears he might not be fit before the end of the League One campaign.

"We're taking our time with Johnnie," said Powell. "We haven't set a timescale or date when he's going to be back.

"An Achilles injury is one you can't rush - we're in the hands of the physio."
  • If he's not playing (not that we have much to play for) then he can't attract the attentions of other clubs.
  • apart from brighton of couse ;)
  • Out for the season: Confirmed on OS. Big loss but hopefully fit for big season to come!
  • Overated. He hasn't scored for nearly 2 months.
  • Said on twitter he was hoping to be back for the Huddersfield game

We don't have much luck with left sided players.
  • no point rushing him back, season's over after all.
  • Yes, not a disaster as the season is effectively over anyway and Powell knows what he can do already.

  • Was Jackson carrying an injury before he finally broke down? I think there were signs - iand f so it looks like a very big mistake I'm afraid.
  • Definitely, sm.

His mobility and sharpness had tailed off for several matches, and wasn't so effective.
Pretty obvious he was carrying an injury.

Sometimes a player can carry on playing matches - usually means no training mid-week and injections before the game.
Eventually a player can severely worsen the injury, if he or the club are not sensible.

It sounds like Jacko is frustrated at not being able to play, but the management are being sensible.
Powell will be desperate to have one of his best players available, but will heed the physios specialist advice.
  • Yes, a good rest will probably do him good and a fresh JJ starting next season has to be a plus -providing we don't sell him.
