Charlton and Welling a comparison

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
Welling had an emphatic 4-1 win today against fellow play off hopefulls Eastleigh. They have just managed to bring in 2 signings after having a transfer embargo throughout the whole season, one of them being an 18 year old Dartford youth prospect.

Given that this season the club has nearly been wound up, the players not being paid, the players having to play with injuries, playing one game with no subs, having a game they were winning abandoned in the 88 min, it puts the shite we've had to watch this season into perspective.

Charlton athletic have a squad of well paid professional footballers. Some of these players have let themselves down, the fans down and the club down with performances this season.

Yesterday it was if Matt Fry had been travelling for a year and was having a kick about. Danny green had him in his pocket, it was sad to see. Reid came on for the Waggy and Reid needs a big long look at himself. 3 years ago he turned down a contract at west ham to go get first team football at sheffield utd. That didnt work out for watever reason, and came to us. He was a good impact player, and this season should have said I'm going to take this league by storm. Instead he has a range of clothes out to buy !!!!!! My thoughts are wtf.

I wont go into the goalkeepers, as I dont get how we have ended up with Elliott and Worner. In my opinion we start at the back and get a commanding goalkeeper, who will inspire the players in front of him. even players like Dailly and doc. But we dont have that.

When Powell was appointed I smiled a big smile. I knew he had a big job on, but what I saw yesterday with playing mcCormack on the right wing and Waggy on the left was unbelievable.

I dont have the answers .... infact I wouldnt know where to start.

But on tuesday i'm going to watch welling ....

  • You have beaten me to this posting Riscardo! lol!

I've watched Welling now and again for many years but the team they have season is extraudinary! I was at the abandoned Bromley game and went to the re-arranged game and they played like they wanted to WIN and actually did better by scoring 3 second time around! The first game Welling only had 11 players NO SUBSTITUTES!!!

So get down to PVR and watch team that wants to play and get as close to promotion as possible.

I am a season ticket holder at Charlton and have been for may years and sadly still have Rochdale tickets for next week and am going only because I have a hotel booked that night up there!! But all season this "team" has made me more unhappy most weekends apart from a couple here and there!
  • Good to see Welling having a good season. Looking solid there in 3rd spot, and that with the 5 point deduction. Would be good if they can get a play off spot.
  • I posted the same thing, tongue in cheek I might add, on a trainers forum I frequent: Next year I'm going to support Welling.
  • i've seen a few games at welling this season, and binned off oldham on saturday to go to PVR to watch them beat Farnborough. It was a tough game, but welling deservedly won 1-0, they really worked hard. i can't see them catching braintree now but play offs look a good bet - but we all know anything can happen then. i know the dates for the play offs in that leage are 3rd and 8th but just wondered, if welling do manage to get through to the final, if anyone knows where the final is held??

Home ground of team with higher finishing place (at least that was how it was done previously).
  • Have a soft spot for Welling as my cousin used to play up front for them and i used to watch him play , i do hope they get promoted.

think theyve changed it this year, heard it was to be at a neutral venue tbc
  • who was that MiA ?

This is the first season in 25 years i've not managed to get over to PVR, and they go and have their best season for years. I'll be rearing my ugly cursed head for the play-offs so bad luck Wings !
  • I went to Chelmsford when we were away at Bournemouth. A very good performance, a good 2-0 win and proper wind up of the keeper who gave the nescafe sign then air kicked a back pass to give the Wings their second ... oh how we laughed.
  • Thurrock at home on Good Friday. Will pop down for this.

Back in the 80's before i used to watch Charlton proper when i was a nipper i used to go home and away to watch him got me interested in watching footie live , S.Lane in answer to your question , he got 28 goals in one season, he's a P.E teacher now, and general top bloke.
  • Welling have some really good players this year.

I'll be very surprised if Loick Pires, the 6'1" winger, will still be there start of next season.
  • [cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]I'll be rearing my ugly cursed head for the play-offs, etc.....

Can't argue with that Dan. Your ugly cursed head has done for us during most home games you've attended.

PS: Do other posters think he is cursed ...... or just ugly?
