A truly harrowing couple of weeks on all fronts.

Couldn't believe when I got in from work a few hours ago and saw this news online, he has been a colossus in Puyol's absence of late at CB and squeaked Barca through the Copa del Rey in January.

That's two professional players in as many weeks diagnosed with cancer in Spain... the first being ex-Liverpool centre half Miki Roqué who is now at Real Betis who are my Spanish team - that news astounded me, the lad's younger than I am by a couple of weeks (22)... he went to a specialist regarding a suspected back strain and was diagnosed with a pelvic tumour. It is a wicked disease that has no regard for the fitness or fame of those that it strikes down.

Get well soon Abidal & Miki Roqué

Me too Isaw, could we be the only two Betis/Addicks in the world?

I suppose that makes us Bad dicks!

People are being diagnosed with cancer everyday. Our family and friends and some people on here most likely. If someone is reading this who is currently being treated for cancer to read words like "truly harrowing" might be a bit upsetting.

We have come a long way with successfully treating cancer so when we see the C word appears it doesn't have to be so scary. Just look at John Hartson.

Get well lads and to all cancer sufferers out there.

    .

Prime example. I never really liked him as a player, but whenever I have seen interviews with him in the last year or so, the guy seems genuinly nice and has done very well to overcome his disease.

Good luck and speedy recovery to them all. Depending on a number of factors most of which we most probably never know Cancer isn't always the monster that gets you but unfortunately it often can be.

Sorry Curb_it and to anyone else if any offence caused.

The "truly harrowing" quote was reference to other events in the last couple of weeks taken together, e.g. the events in Christchurch, the Middle East/North Africa, Japan, etc. as well as seemingly frequent stories like this appearing (another one today with Bryan Robson)... just seems like wave after wave of sad/tragic news at the moment. Perhaps harrowing was a bad word to use but definitely in the case of Miki Roqué, the fact I've paid to see him in the flesh/he's almost exactly the same age as me/the circumstances really made me think.

    To Cordoban/Dartford

Great to see some more Addick-béticos about - spent a year living there and seen a fair few games, great passion, atmosphere, a real "club of the people".

However, must be some kind of sadist kick to follow both clubs?

It's worse when it happens/has happened in your own family, people you know and love dearly.
My auntie died of cancer and now my daughter is heading the same way. Not dead yet but well
on her way. "Truly Harrowing" is a strong choice of words however, unfortunately, it is correct.

Former addick I'm very sorry to hear that - I hope that things somehow can improve for your daughter.

I understand and agree that it is worse when it's someone close to you... my own family has unfortunately suffered at its hands, as I am sure will be the case for most reading this.

Once again - I hope that your daughter can and will recover.
