Jackson being chased by Brighton

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
This rumour is doing the rounds on the Brighton forum the North Stand .

They seem to think JJ is out of contract in the summer and will sign a pre contract for them if the Addicks are not promoted , he played with Gus at Spurs.

I was under the impression we had secured him for two years , but as a natural left footer if true I feel he would be a difficult player to replace .

  • To be honest, I couldn't blame him if he did go!
  • Depends if he is willing to re locate him and his family to Brighton, the reason he came to us if because he wanted to be closer to family. Is he part of the Essex set of charlton players who car share? if so Essex to Sussex, not the worst journey but would not want to do it everyday.

Also thought we had secured him for 2 years.

Could not blame him for going, Championship side most probably with a new ground, good manager and very bright future.

Obviously I don't want him to go anywhere, but he seems a good guy so he deserves to join a good team like them. Would get to see him next season as well.

Oh that mongy fan from the Poyet rumour thread is going to come back and rub our noses in it isn't he?
  • Doesn't look like their kind of player to me. Doesn't move the ball on quickly enough. Movement not good enough. Be surprised therefore. More likely to be interested in Jackson than Semedo though who I would imagine is the very antithesis of what Poyet looks for in a player!!

Apologies for the cynicism, I'm just struggling to see how anyone who knows what they are doing, especially someone who wants to play football, would be interested in anything we have to offer.
  • Brighton may be having their moment in the spotlight, but by no means are they anywhere near cafc in terms of size.
He would be silly to go there.
  • You must be kidding.

Brighton are - what Charlton were..............going places !
  • Want to keep him but wouldn't stand in his way... if he is indeed under a one year contract he doesn't owe us anything - he's put a shift in and if his counterparts had done half what he has this season we wouldn't be where we are now.

Saying that, I just don't see it... he'll be 29 in the summer, has had his fair share of injuries and hasn't played Championship football since 2007/08. He's achieved a lot since coming in but I get the impression that the top part of this league is his level. Though he could do a job in the league above, I get the impression that Brighton will have far more ambitions than that.

Moved away from nottingham to live with his family again, cant see him wanting to move again, not that far brighton to essex. But not a journey you could make everyday
  • Someone ask him on twitter.

And he's cancelled his Bromley Addicks event

    :-O
  • The reason i posted this is that it is plausable . I always look for links with transfers and both Poyet and Tarricco played with Jacko when he was starting out at Spurs .

    On the minus side

In terms of family and with the M25 Brighton is not Nottingham so it is commutable .

Curbs lived in Essex throughout his 3 year playing spell at the Goldstone and Jacko is 29 next season he would already have spent 3 years out of the CCC so time is not on his side if he wants to play at that level again. He was also very loyal to Parky as he had given him one of his first loan moves when he was at Colchester.

On the other hand having read his interviews I believe he does see the potential in Charlton and might if Dailly and Semedo left in the summer be a good captain for us next season . I can't see him being a guarenteed first team place with Brighton but being more of a squad rotation player . At Charlton he would be a mainstay and if promoted could grow with the team .

As I understand it all the players are unavailable for Tuesday night, which is why both he and Worner have had to drop out - I feel you may be taking 2 and 2 and making 5.

Saga is correct. Nothing to do with a transfer.
  • £3 million would be a good price
See if they still want him after that
    Sorry no sentiment in football

Erm, if he's out of contract, we can't ask for sod all.
  • My son tells me that according to Football Manager his contract expires 30/06/2012.

That was only an estimate as the length of Jackson's contract was never revealed by the club when he signed.
