Not Fit To Wear The Shirt

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
The majority of our players now do not represent what Charlton has always been about!
Where's their passion, commitment, spirit, bottle, fight and courage??
Players like John Robinson, Richard Rufus, Mark Kinsella, Dean Kiely, Darren Bent, Chris Powell, Matt Holland, Steve Brown, Gary Nelson, etc. played with passion, determination, spirit and loved our club.

Whilst were all thoroughly depressed with tonights result & recent weeks, I'm sure the players will be alrite.
They will probably be sharing jokes on Twitter, going to fancy restaurants & planning their early Summer Holidays!

Rant Over!

  • TBF half of them are actually injured currently anyway ;-)
  • And loanees obviously dnt play for passion but 4 game time so they dnt care
  • It's ability and failure to play in the systems we're trying that's lacking, not 'passion'.
  • We have a poor team end of. I defy anyone who thinks we have a decent team.
  • All those players were very good players. They had ability as well as passion/determination etc.

We have hard working players. We just don't have a balanced team and squad. We have weaknesses which pure effort can't make up for.

A lot of them wouldn't be playing at this level if they didn't put the effort in.
  • The players try they are simply not very good.
  • Have not been the same team without JJ. He provided some of the balance imo.

What great players do we have in the treatment room then ????
  • Why do we have a bad half/ good half syndrone , or in tonights case , bad half/bad half, why can't we have a good half/good half on Saturday?

    I know i'm talking flatu , but i know what i mean :)
  • We werent bad tonight at all. Two players were bloody awfull but the rest did well for the majority of the game and we were ' for the most part ' the better side.

Who were the two? Francis (?) and ?
  • Passion? Captain clean shorts, don't make me laugh. Geeing up the crowd after spending 90 minutes failing to put in a tackle isn't Passion.

seems like you were not at the same game as me then. Not at any stage were we the better side. We had two players who imo would be out of their depth even in League 2 (McOxo and Francis). We had two Racon shots on target and barely made their keeper work at all. They passed the ball around better and made their possession count. Powell picked the wrong team again but the players are knowhere good enough and he's finding that out now. Francis nearly cost us three goals with soem dreadful play and if he keeps his place on Saturday that will be a time when I'll start to doubt CP's ability to do the job.
  • Agree with Bedsaddick.

It sounds worse than it was but we do have some merciless "supporters" who turn on the team rather than get behind them. That was SO in evidence tonight.

And I'm assuming the 2 were Franny & Macca.

The first 15 minutes of the second half was all Charlton ( perhaps you were still in the bar?) , and when BWP came on for the last 15 we were mostly on the offensive , we just couldn't find the final ball as usual. I did say the first half was even. I agree about Francis and about making their keeper work but what did our keeper have to do up till they scored?.
  • No wonder Southend went down with tweedle dum and his mate playing.

Neither are good enough for Charlton, never have been and never will be. We may in this league for a reason, but seriously there are so many better players in this division than these two.

    Solly to start next game.

Solly has to start but i'm not convinced he will.

you say the first 15 mins of the second half was all Charlton, and no I wasn't in the bar, but what did we actually create? We had plenty of possession but did nothing with it. I lost count of the number of times Chadwick had the ball, turned away from his marker and started off move. Our midfield was pedestrian by comparison. The number of times we had the ball well inside their half and yet six, seven passes later it was back with Llera or Worner. Most of the time it is our defenders trying to play defensive splitting balls whilst our midfielders stroll around protecting the back four whilst being given the runaround by the opposition midfield.

Your right , we created nothing but neither did Mk Dons until they scored and at least we were trying to attack with some pace from Reid , the only problems that we had to cope with were from Francis and McCormack's ineptitude! . Cant argue with you about the passing leading to nothing but at least it was an improvement on recent games or perhaps I'm clutching at straws for some sort positivity.

  • We spent most of the time knocking it about the back four, was a shame in the second half though before they scored we looked quite comfortable.
  • without threatening once, was embarassing the whole performance.
