On the NW version of Late Kick - Off on BBC1 there was a discussion about the new rules that the Premier League wish to introduce for Academies.
Apparently there will be 4 levels of Academy depending on facilities. Level 1 will be able to recruit at all ages and then the ages will be restricted for the other levels with level 4 only being able to recruit 16yrs +, also the milage restriction will be lifted. The general feeling of the discussion was that League 1 & 2 clubs would only be able to afford Level 3 or 4 and would suffer whilst the Premier clubs would get all the best talent.
Anyone got an idea how this will affect us?

Steve Avory wrote a piece in the programme attacking the new proposals and Steve Kavangagh attacked them at the Q & A at the Valley.
Shame Avory's article new went on the OS (or if it did I missed it as it was excellent)
Matt, any chance of a copy for here?
The other side of the coin is that big premiership clubs spend a lot of money producing players who are largely not quite good enough for them so it may be an option to focus resources on picking up these players. If there weren't any academies I don't think standards would drop - they exist largely so that clubs can have a claim on the best players. They play a numbers game but Everton didn't produce Wayne Rooney - he would be the same player if he didn't belong to an academy.
