Llera by default.

Llera came back on saturday and had a blinder BUT with Doherty`S poor form for much of the season I wonder why Mig wasn`t included earlier.
If Doherty hadnt been injured I have no doubt he would of played on saturday,Big Mig came in by default.Yes Fortune may of started but he has made Doherty look half decent.
I`m glad Mig grabbed his chance with both hands but it wasn`t a managerial masterstroke to include him just ...no alternative.
I don`t think we would of lost 4 on the spin if Mig had been in.

    Welcome to CL.

Mig had a good game but Tranmere put almost no pressure on the back four so need to judge him over a few more games.

Agree that he is a better option than Doc regardless.
  • I've been really disappointed with Doc this year. Maybe he needs the right sort of partner with him. I like Llera but he'll cost goals like Doc has in the long run too.

We need a pacey CB to get us out of trouble when required and hopefully form a decent partnership with probably Dailly.
  • And Fortune...very sad how he`s just aged in a football sense and just ain`t up to it no more.Love the bloke has done alot for charlton over the years BUT now just past it.
  • Doherty was immense for Norwich last season.

Remember him having an absolute shocker when we beat them 4-1 in the Championship relegation season. Seems we have got that version.
  • Fortunes knees are shot, Doc .. well as clem says, Llera however only 10 minutes from a howler
  • I've noticed before that when Llera has had a break from playing he always comes back into the side and plays really well. He then, usually, keeps his place and 3-4 games later reverts to 'headless chicken' mode. Can't quite understand it - maybe he can't play 90 minutes week in, week out or maybe he gets complacent back in the team and takes his place for granted. Hope it doesn't happen again - but lets see if he's still having good games in 3-4 weeks....
  • Llera's not the answer imo. He looked ok against a team that sat back and absorbed pressure but against any other team with more than a yeti up front he'll look what he is, an immobile version of Bambi.
  • 3 0r 4 games then has ahowler he aint had 3 0r 4 games all season has he.
Won us the game at orient when he came on for Dailly decent v oldham then dropped for Dailly whilst Doh stayed in the side.
    UNBELIEVABLE.
  • Let's give him a chance. We're playing differently under Powell and it might suit him better. He's had false dawns before but he's an honest committed defender and, frankly, given what else we have he's probably the only option anyway right now.
  • Also as an ex MKD player will be up for the game tomorrow.

  • How i see it, Llera had a good start to the season last season, then a real howler away to Colchester. After that Sodje came in and he never really recovered from that. Sodje in my opinion was a better League One defender than he was.

This season, Doherty was brought in to be the dominant figure at the back. I think most of us were expecting him to be better than he has been. Its taken a while, but this is Llera's chance. A good run and its there for him to cement for the rest of the season. He has good technical ability and what appears to be a great attitude, i really hope he takes it with both hands, and eradicates the instances which saw him post-Colchester poorly marked in the post-match ratings.
  • Llera always plays a blinder - or at least outperforms expectations on his first game back in the starting XI. It's generally in game three/four of the come-back that he makes a few howlers and out the side he goes for a couple of months.

Perhaps because opposistion managers have more time to study him, realise his weaknesses and thus target them?
  • Llera comes unstuck when he plays against pace- He is very good and effective when not under that kind of pressure because he has other qualities besides defending - If we employed a horses for courses policy - we would have definitely used him more.
  • I may go out tomorrow if I can borrow a red shirt to wear

  • I really hope he has a blinder tonight and cements his place, you cant help but like the guy....and he has a top attitude in my book.
  • Don't think anyone's still given him enough credit yet for how well he played in the semi-final second leg play off against Swindon last season, thought he was outstanding and stepped up to the plate when it really mattered.
  • Thought he was outstanding last night been our biggest goal threat in the last few home games

Always got an error in him but who hasnt at this level.

    Well done son

and the recovery from nearly being crippled last night gave me the biggest chuckle in ages!!!
  • Always wins headers at corners, not sure why Doherty when he plays wasn't put into the centre during corners instead of running to the front or back.

Big Mig is doing himself no harm, especially if he is trying to win a new contract.
  • A revelation since coming back into contention.

  • Not getting carried away just yet, yes he has performed admirably and shown he can be a fine League 1 defender. However, we have been here before and still very unsure if I would be happy to see him as first choice come August.

He is making a good case for a new deal and whenever he is interviewed for the OS or Programme he always comes across very well. Great attitude and unlike others, clearly cares.

Long may it continue and will happily be proved wrong regarding the usual 5/6 games dependable then disaster.
  • Llera has waited patiently and taken his chance superbly. It's nice to see him getting the plaudits at last. I think he has been harshly treated/judged in the past (by fans and the previous manager).

I've always thought he was worthy of a place in this team as he offers more than any other defender at the club with his passion, free kicks, diagonal balls, aerial presence and goal threat.

I felt sorry for him when he got the cold shoulder for (let's face it) a couple of errors, when other defenders have actually cost us more goals and 'got away with it'.

If Doherty (or Fortune) gets in in front of him I'll be well p'eed off.

Keep it up Miguel, you could become a fans favourite, would love him to score an absolute screamer soon. He deserves that.
  • Would like to see him get his own song now, love his attitude - the way he argued with the ref about the ball crossing the line last night and right after we scored he didn't celebrate and instead ran to grab the ball to take it back to the circle so we could try and win the game. Hope he gets a new deal in the summer and whilst he is capable of pressing the self-distruct button, he does have a lot of strengths and he is capable of holding his own in this league, Viva Miguel!
  • can I suggest the Nicky Bailey song, wouldn't mind husband's permission.
