  • Sometimes forget that Blackpool had a very successful history until the 70s. Suprised M'boro are that high
  • Feels almost like winning something
  • That's pretty good considering a lot of those clubs had a 30 year head start on us.
  • Shows we've dined at the top table for a reasonable amount of time during our history

Not forgetting that we have won and been runners up in the Fa Cup

The cup final may have not been recent enough for some but a 5 minute day in the recent sun may have kept the likes of nolly and chirpy happier but those 8 glory years under curbs watching our own top class players competing against the worlds best, on occasions, are memories that I am more than grateful for ......

  • Yes Ohhahh, a mid-table finish in the premiership is better than winning the FA cup. Cookoo...

I'd have 8 years in the Prem over an FA Cup win and 8 years in the crap like we are now every time.
  • Doesn't take into account 3 pts change I assume?

Interesting Liverpool top it despite spending significant time in the lower division. "What have the Romans ever done for us", I believe was the line from another thread...

if anyone thinks getting to the Fa/League Cup final and even winning one of those will feel better than that Play Off Final win in 1998 then good luck to them

the Fa Cup was a big thing up to the early 1990's the league cup has always been second class and how many were buzzing their cocks off when we got to the Fool/Full Members Cup Final
Uefa Cup and Cup Winners Cup meant something years ago

    they aren't that big anymore
just look at the weakened teams that are put out by most in these fixtures and the crowds that (don't) turn up to them
times change and footballing priorities change
some of you clearly are living in the past , I know Cup Final day and the big build up from 9am from the late seventies and 80's was a real big massive day for me as a child but that has all changed and the real goal is the Premiership and as much as it doesn't sit pretty with you old romantics , that's the way of the world

don't forget i am always mostly right

I think it's nice that you got ignored.

Statto.com is pretty good - I think we're 20th in the all-time Premier League table... at least we were when I last looked about a year ago. I couldn't handle another relegation so don't fancy checking again.
  • Sunderland and Blackburn surprise me as both have spent longish periods out of the top flight in the time I've followed football but I guess they were strong pre war.

you got to be disturbed to prefer 8 seasons of getting by in the prem over actual silverware like the fa cup, thats what a football club strives for winning something
  • "Daddy i will never forget that day we lifted the league cup beating Arsenal" .......... "Daddy i will never forget that day we made 10th" real bonder that second one
  • "Whys dad going mad mum?" "just beat bolton to 9th love"....
  • "daddy remember when we beat sunderland in the play off final wembleys greatest ever game"

"no son i'm still re living the full members cup final"
  • lol behave
  • i'm still talking about winning at old trafford 25 years ago
and how we won at the emirates 2-4
and smashing chelsea 4-2 and being 4th in the premiership

oh no we lost to bolton/boro/wycombe in the cup 1/4 finals .....
  • qpr v oxford milk cup final do me a favour .....
  • Oh crikey hit a nerve we beat man united and arsenal good stuff did it mean we then got into europe or make a semi final? Bolton made europe, fulham made a final wigan little wigan made a cup final in there first year in premier,we made a video...

  • Did you mention the full members cup in your arguement?
  • and do you think they'd take them cups and european spots instead of 7 seasons of prem ...

just ask ipswich, norwich, pompey, luton, scum, oxford and whoever else flitted thru that crap

yes in an ideal world we'd be in the prem and in europe and the cup finals

but i know i'd rather have our last 25 years of history than the likes of the scum oxford luton pompey etc
  • Are you mad mate? that what dreams are about seeing your club picking up the cup,im sure some of these clubs are in a terrible state now but to see your team win something f... me it does not get better, dont you want more from us when we are in the top flight?
  • never compare us with pompey, two finals in last three years dont do that again please
  • i repeat

yes in an ideal world we'd be in the prem and in europe and the cup finals
  • not ideal most clubs who have a 7 year stint manage a cup final at best

promotion up at carlisle to the top flight for the first time in 29 years
4 seasons of top flight footy (with a wembley fool members cup final thrown in)
winning the greatest play off cup final at wembley
winning the 2nd division league championship(with 1100 fans there at ewood park)
    8 years of premiership football
england internationals playing for charlton competing against the greatest players in the world

or a moody cup final run playing a load of old tripe from the lower leagues to get there and getting stuffed in the final
    one moody european away tie

    it's not rocket science
  • keep telling yourself its good enough,i will keep wishing we may win something or even get near winning something. No one dreams of eighth in any league sorry
