Greg Abbott...Grade 'A' Idiot

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
Carlisle Manager....classy bloke. Giving the w@nker sign to the lower west TWICE last night. Think the fourth official was made aware of it and extra security was scrambled for him after the game. Horrible little man and Penfold/Scally lookalike.
Be interesting to see if he faces any punishment over it. Imagine if Wenger or any other Prem manager did that, you'd never hear the end of it!

FFS!! Does it matter? Crowds everywhere give nothing but absue to opposing players/managers/coaches/subs etc etc. I have no problem with one of them giving a bit back. Sometimes it's worth it just to see the hilarious looks of shock and horror on the so called football fans faces if they get a bit back......

I was at The Oval last year for a ODI v Australia. Shaun Tait was fielding on the boundry just in fron of me and my mates. I gave him some stick "Hey Shaun! Last time you were here I saw Ashley Giles slog you around the ground. Ashley giles! The wheelie bin! You remember Shaun?"
He turn round and gave me the w**ker sign. Brilliant. All very funny.

  • Sorry, who is the Grade 'A' Idiot here then? Who cares if a player or manager responds with a gesture back to the dogs abuse he has probably been given all game? What, are we now offended if someone dares to give some back. Grow up please! If everyone in the ground was punished for something trivial like that, the ground would be empty!
  • well done Greg .
  • Agree Chirpy, it does make me laugh when fans have a moan about managers an players giving stick back. I know how I'd feel if people had been giving it large, I'd give it back, expecially as they won 3-1!!!
  • He does look like Scally though
  • Just so you know, it wasn't a case of giving back what he was getting. He called for a foul someone shouted shut up Abbott and he came back with that. Hardly balanced is it? Fair enough if he was getting dog's abuse, but he wasn't.
  • get letter writing mate
  • Anybody ever explained that gesture to a 7 year old before?
  • Dont shelter them

No but it was on my list of things to do before I hit 30 ;-(

Doing it to the Family Stand was he?
  • [cite]Posted By: Jayajosh[/cite]Anybody ever explained that gesture to a 7 year old before?

Of course not. Nor should you. If they ask you say something like: Only very silly naughty people do that and you should never do it becasue the bogeyman will get you if you do......

    Simple.
  • The bogeyman exists?

I'm sure that's not the worst thing children see / hear at football games...

Call me cynical but I can't believe it was a pleasant and amicable as you suggest...
  • Pawel maybe gone but at least there's another Abbott we can moan about.
  • You have to say these Abbots do create an atmosphere........

    Oh what an atmosphere.......
  • DRF (aka cynical) Trust me, it really was. Not a single offensive word was aimed at the bloke.
Anyway, I've seriously mis judged the fact people might have thought he was out of order. Bit confused why you'd want to support that sort of thing from a manager but different strokes and all that. To me it speaks volumes about the sort of character Powell is in comparison. You'd never catch him doing anything like that in a million years.
Just curious, if he or any manager for that matter was aiming an offensive gesture towards the covered end, what do you reckon the reaction would be?

I reckon we would just 'BOUNCE'.
  • Is it just me but everyone seems to get one over on Charlton nowadays. Even our last win vs Palace we got relegated so it meant nothing. Bad times.

That picture is quality. The guy at the back in the flat cap (clearly an early trend setter) genuinely looks so surprised he could be an extra in a 70s sitcom.

  • How about the bloke with his hand over his mouth? Wooss! Funniest though is Basil Fawlty in the dodgy mac top right.....
  • I particularly like "Hand to mouth man" above Cantona's left arm who resembles someone who realises they have left the iron on whilst halfway to the station.

Other notable cards include the 1970s detective/ ne'er retired estate agent in the top right of the shot and the bald chap top left who seems to be looking on and huffing "Bloody frog" in resignation.
  • Is that a kid with a United hat on? top left?
  • And the girl on the right looks like she's not sure whether to throw a fit or break into a round of applause.
  • Yes stubley and there's another one in a utd shirt stood next to Forestdale Fonze.

Yeah, I bet thats the last time he goes in the away end. Still he must have had a good laugh when his mates saw the picture, "me and Eric took their end"!
  • I'm a fan of the bloke in the top left too. He looks like he's seen Cantona attack hundreds of people and he would expect nothing less.

    Haha quality!
  • It shows a definate lack of class. Abuse from fans is not pleasant of course but managers are paid to win and to be professional.

I take a lot of abuse from people in my job but if I gave it back would be sacked as I am expected by my employers to be professional in what i do. Football managers should be similar IMO, they (along with players) are role models to our younger generation and should act accordingly. You can show passion without being a pr1ck.
  • im a fan of the itailian mobster lookylikey to the right -all black with his hands crossed nicely at the waist, acting like its just business....
