I have thought for a while (even when we were winning) that a change in formation is needed, to make us more secure at the back, whilst having enough flexibility to play attacking football. If I was Powell, I would try the following, in the attempt to sure up the defence as well as having a system where playing high tempo passing football will help us.
defence as well as having a system where playing high tempo passing football will help us.
Elliot
Francis Doc Daily Fry/bessone
Semedo McCormack/Jackson (depending on fitness)
Eccleston Racon Waggy/Reid
BWP
I have no idea if it will look right when it gets posted, but I think with this the two holding midfielders can cover the defence and allowing the other 4 more attacking players to get forward and have some freedom without the need to worry to much about making bad passes in the final third (i.e trying a creative pass that goes wrong)
When defeding, the system can go back to a 4-5-1 style to give us some extra protection.
Thoughts?

Of course, but who else could we play in that posistion? Perhaps Wagstaff? Ideally, a new creative attack minded player will come and play that posistion :P
Experiment with some form of 4-3-3 if we're planning for next season. Will probably have to wait until the summer for a few players to really make it work though.

I'd love us to play like them or Huddersfield or Southampton.
but...
Poyet didn't get them playing they are after 8 games.
This season we might see an improvement with a couple of good loans, but like Brighton, big changes can't happen until Powell's at least had a pre-season to sort out the squad.
