Dailly

Does anybdy else think as captain he shows no leadership skills, not that I know what goes on in the changing room or anything but just by looking at the team spirit when we go behind or are under the cosh?

I really dont rate him or Docherty and firmly believe we need two new centre halves to get us out of this league.

I don't see anyone on the pitch showing any leadership skills.
As for centre halves, I don't see how Doc and Dailly can play together they are both too slow - and Fortune is not the answer either. One of those three might do alright bringing experience to a pairing with a younger quicker partner, but I don't see that you can put any of those three together without inviting problems.
  • yeah agreed, the thing that I notice is that they dont seem to be bothered when we concede.
  • He is past it, simple as. One season to many.
    Give the armband to Semedo.
  • Quality player well past his best who is enjoying a bit of a stroll in the park before he bails out.
What we need is an ambitious captain who wants to take the club and himself forward. Someone with a bit of fire in their belly like Kinsella, Brown or Robinson. We need players who hate losing. Semedo is too quiet to be captain. I honestly don't think we have any leaders at the club ATM.
  • As above think he has had one season to many and his partnership with doc is shocking. I dint think semedo is the answer either tho has he never has enough influence on a game
  • He does seem to be getting slower as the season goes on.
  • Agree

Quality player but feel it's one season to many. We need a captain who will bust his balls all over the park and to get the rest of them fired up when things aren't going right. Someone like Dawson for orient
  • Disagree. Wasn't there last night but he's just as committed any player we've had over the years. What's he supposed to do, scream at team mates for making mistakes? He'd be critisized if he was constantly moaning at team mates.

He's just exposed by the players in front him. Remember Hudson? Wasn't seen as good enough, but went on to captain Cardiff to the play-off final last season.

Not saying he's brilliant, maybe not quite as good as last year, but still one of our better players.

Also one of our fittest players, not a case of one season too many for me. Was better with pace alongside him in Sodje and a team that could keep the ball better. Had this team been as good as last years, Dailly would have looked just as reliable.
  • The back four are not working as a unit. Something has to change and soon. Dailly is not the weakest link.
  • Agree with Scoh. I don't think any of our players are necessarily bad players per-say, but the balance of the team is all wrong. Either Dailly or Doc would look better with a different partner imo (sadly that partner probably isn't currently at the club). We can't play with 2 out and out wingers either, especially when the opposition play 3 in midfield like Carlisle did last night and then up front we have strikers who want to play on the shoulder but no one to come deeper and link the play or win flick-ons. Think it was a bad move letting Abbott go with no replacement ready to come straight in, especially as Benson still isn't fit and Anyisah is made of broken biscuits.

It's going to take time to sort things out, but currently we look a bit lost - I'm not sure anyone is totally sure what Powelly is trying to achieve and as such we keep getting caught between passing the ball around a bit more and playing direct like we did under Parky. I find it a bit worrying that after 8 games I still have no idea what Powell's football philosphy is.

You could drop Franz Beckenbauer into the back 4 under those circumstances and it would still look a bit shaky.

  • As usual I agree with Scoham. Dailly is one of our best players. The problem is he has Doherty alongside who is so slow to react & run. He has Francis at right back who has been poor and although improved still struggles to pass to a Charlton player. He had Fry at left back who started off well, but has not performed well since Xmas (but I'm not knocking him).
In front he has Semedo and Racon and when he passes to them, you can be quite confident that they won't put through many decent forward passes.
I would expect Rio Ferdinand to struggle in those circumstances.
BTW he's not slow, maybe not as quick as in his prime, but definitley not slow.
  • Dailly is the least of our problems.

He's playing basically just for expenses I've been told by a reliable source and is as committed and fit as anybody in that team at the moment.

Our lack of a midfield puts the defence under continual pressure and sooner or later it cracks.
  • Think we are nearing the end - needs to be on the bench but we need a better centre half to replace him.
  • Our best defender since Prem and could do a job next year with right partner. But rarely see him organising defence, when we go behind the back four need to push up to exert pressure, his call, but it never comes.

    Agree with your disagree Scoham

Funnily enough I was thinking that Dailly reminded me of Kins in his last season with us. He was up for it but he just kept making unforced errors (like Dailly). I like Dailly but I think that his body isn't keeping up with his football brain.

I said a couple of months ago that we don't really have any leadership on the pitch.
  • Christian is the best of a weak back four. As previously said he would benefit from a pacey younger player alongside him but I don't see him as being past it just yet. Also agree with Len and Scoham.
