Have been a big problem all season going forward, I can't remember the last time we scored from a free kick or corner??? We seem to waste them
And defending them we seem to have problems defending them and oftenr esult in goals against us.
It's been the same for years, surely someone in training must say something and we work on them???

Look likely to give a goal away almost everytime we defend an attacking one.
Been like it for several years. Needs addressing.
I have noticed that when we have a corner from the right, he makes a decoy run to the near post; the ball goes over his head an hopefully to a charlton player in space to have a chance. Possibly it could be the other way around with someone making a decoy run and Doherty having the space to head it in.
Defending set plays this season has been terrible as well, I would love to know the statistic of how many we have conceded from deal ball situations compared to other teams in the division. I know Dagenham & Redbirdge has scored loads from corners and free kicks, when we go to Victoria Road we will have to be on our game..
Defending at Set Plays is organised at training on Friday morning. The opposition would have been watched a few times and the coaching staff will be aware of what the opposition are trying to do. Charlton use a man-for-man marking system, so each defender is allocated an opponent to pick up. Once the defence is organised its then up to the players.
The goal at Notts County resulted from; a needless free kick conceded in an advanced area (Racon); poor marking which allowed Bishop to run free across the area (Semedo); and poor defending as the "Front Man" in the near post area (Francis). Better Tackling would have prevented the free kic; better awareness as to where your opponent was going would have prevented Bishop getting to the ball; and alertness in the near post area would have cut out the cross. In short - Dozy.
On Attacking Set Plays, most teams set up their routines in pre-season, and use them throughout the season. Charlton have a very good corner routine involving a block around the penalty spot and a diagonal run into the near post. Have a look at the winner at Carlisle with Benson on the diagonal, it worked perfectly. However, the delivery is often poor. Dailly got free against Exeter and the ball failed to arrive. Free kicks around the edge of the box have also been shocking lately.
We've often given free kicks away like that which we shouldn't have this season. Didn't the player have his back to Racon, he wasn't really going anywhere. We were and probably still are top of the league for number of fouls given away (stats are on the FL site).
One of BWP's goals was a header from a corner, think that must be the most recent goal we have scored from a set piece.
Definitely an area we really need to improve as said.
Thanks for that ... interesting
Our routine from corners has hardly varied over the last few years. Doherty is the current decoy, previously it has been Racon and occasionally Semedo. The player runs to the front of the six-yard box, then U-turns and heads back to the penalty spot. It seems to create very little, but my main criticism is that we always seem to do the same thing.
Like a lot of our play ... if you watch Charlton two or three times, you pretty much have it sussed.
It's why less predictable players like Ecclestone (and Martin when he was with us) are so important.
Don't forget the corner taker bouncing the ball twice or raising his hand to let everyone know what corner routine were using........Always bemused me that!
SAM SODJE
We miss his aerial prowess at both ends
All too often the ball is in the air and there is a weak header on it that half clears. For all his faults you were guaranteed one thing with Sodje in the side and that was that he would be launching himself at it
we are a bit of a soft touch aerially and need a bit more presence. Francis, Doc, Dailly, Jenks - all decent but not outstanding. Then I am struggling to think of a dominant header of the ball anywhere else in the team
