Trains should be banned (when you fall in front of them by accident they kill you)
cars should be banned (crashes into you which kills you)
alcohol should be banned (causes liver disease which kills you)
bacon should be banned (causes cholestrol which kills you)

Do you read the dailly mail Kimbo

Ban all and everything that does any harm to anyone.

Sorry rant over

Yes, air rifles and major transport links are basically the same thing, I agree..........

[cite]Posted By: Algarveaddick[/cite]Who is Air, and what does he rifle?

Still wrong. Rifle as the verb wouldn't work either. Not correctable it's so bad.

Ironic thread this. Well done Leftbehind.

I did realise that AT, but thought it would be fun to post anyway...

Sorry Algarve. Too much irony in this thread for me now. I don't know who's being serious and who isn't!

Air rifles and bad grammar - all a bit Medway!
• I had one when I was a teenager (about 30 yrs ago) - mainkly because a couple of mates alos had one.

For what I can remember there are two types of "bore" - .22 and .177 - which means there are two different sizes you can buy (the "bore" is the circumference of the barrell) - like getting a 32 inch or a 37 inch. telly.

I bought mine from a shop in Chatham, nr the station. If you do buy one then you need to also buy a cover for it and it must always be kept under wraps when not in use................especially when out of doors !

Blimey ask a question and see what happens LOL

Thanks for the advise the few that gave it.
• The following is quite true (would I lie?). I used to work with a chap who was diminutive of stature, only about 5' 2" tall. He was also extremely tedious to talk to and could go on for hours about the most uninteresting things. One day I noticed he had a sticker in the rear window of his car which said 'Reigate Small Bore Club'. What an odd thing I thought, people don't usually advertise their height and personality traits. It turned out however that he did indeed belong to such a club and they met every Thursday to fire their small bore rifles and pistols at targets in the old caves below Reigate High Street.

Strangely no, read the guardian, cannot see the point of them other than to hurt animals - and i am an animal lover. If you are using it for target practice then fine - very manly

I must have shot a thousand pellets using my March's .22 rifle, and have only ever hit cans and trees. Sometimes I even filled the cans with sawdust after March had done some chainsawing! That's right, he had a chainsaw! Kimbo, you must think it's a horror movie in the March household. Still, I didn't once stop and think "I hit a Lilt can at 50 yards today, and I became a man!" Rather, i think you might have some issues of your own coming through here...

Not bad i guess...

So why have you got one?

How is it powered? co2? can it cause damage if you shot it at a human (from normal range)...

Im suprised they arnt illegal to be honest (the government seems to ban everything else)
• Had no strong view either way until last October, when someone shot my cat in Bickley, ruptured his uretra and necessitated a kidney removal.

£2500 down now, and that's after the pet insurance has met half the bill for the surgery.

Now I'd jsut like to find that particular air rifle owner. And take his kidney.
• Its not Co2

Mainly for fun enjoyed shooting while at my cousins so thought get one and have a go, also the cousin is a flash sod so i can practice before i go down there.

Also a lot of building going on and Rats in the garden and now in the loft so that good be a option.

They have banned mail order on guns as you have to prove your age fair enough and more powerful guns need a licence
• Why shoot a cat in a garden, when you can just shoot a person on a games console.

You wanna shoot something, join the army, guns aren't sport.
• Not sure you're allowed to shoot vermin (rats / squirrels) in your garden, or anywhere else for that matter. You have t ensure you kill them and shooting from a distance isn't a guaranteed kill.

I think you have to trap them and then shoot close range or use something to take their head off.

If that helps ?

i beg to differ

• [cite]Posted By: PL54[/cite]Not sure you're allowed to shoot vermin ?
That's a shame, as I keep seeing Jim Davidson in my garden.

Note to mad people - I would not actually shoot Jim Davidson, nor would I encourage anyone else to, so please don't reply with your usual, 'How would you like it if I said that about Matt Lucas?' type bilge.

Rabbit, Rats and Grey Squirrel Wood Pigeon pest control information.

Autumn / Winter brings its own problems with vermin.

Rats are always a problem. If the food supply is great enough they will breed under your sheds and out buildings and garden hedge bottoms all year round. Rats likes to be near water if you have a small or large pond in your garden, rats will not be far away. Be aware not to shoot the Water Vole as they are not a problem to anyone and are protected. Rats like gardens with bird feeders and wind falls from fruit trees attract rats as well as welcome winter birds. Pet rabbits and chickens also attract rats in great numbers. For ever rat you see their may be ten you do not see. The best way to control rats is to shoot them with an air rifle. Do not handle the dead rats as they carry lots of nasty diseases scoop them up with a shovel and dispose of them in a safe way.

Wood Pigeon are the most wide spread of pests in the UK they are found in gardens and parks as well as on farmland. They require a full power air rifle up to 12 ft lbs to control this pest, the best calibre for pigeon control is .177 cal if shot at ranges up to 50 yds .22 cal is fine at ranges up to 40 yds. They do make very good eating, just cut down the breast bone area and peal the skin and feathers back and cut the breast flesh off, dice and put in a casserole of fry in hot oil.

Rabbits are on the increase again , the population has exploded with large bags of this pest are being reported being shot with .22 cal air rifles. Most farm land with cereal crops now have a large population of rabbits. Farmers may let responsible air gun shooters control this pest, if you go the right way by obtaining permission to shoot vermin. Always obtained permission from the farmer or land owner to shoot vermin. Always act responsible when shooting. Join B.A.S.C. and get insurance it all helps in getting new land to shoot over.

Another pest at the moment is the Grey Squirrel that has come into gardens and is damaging property and is causing some expensive repair bills. They will also take eggs and chicks out of birds nests in the spring and early summer. We have the tools to control these pests from the basic spring air rifle to multi shot rifles and pistols for close range control. Give us a call or come and see us for our best advice on the tools to control this vermin. Always shoot safely and be aware of what lies behind your chosen target. If shooting in your garden do not allow your pellet to stray out side your boundary.

Always practice your shooting skills and dispatch your chosen quarry humanly.

Dispose of any shot vermin in a safe manner.

Shooting codes of practice should be followed at all times
