  • Pretty sure that there's footage on the Centenary History DVD. With the right software/know how, you could make your own stills.
  • i think i've got the DVD somewhere, but to be fair the screen shots wont look to crisp.
    Nice idea though, thanks.
  • Tom Morris was the man that took photos at the time of this match, must say i have many of his photos hanging in my football room at home .If he still has the negs he is your man .
  • Does Tom have any contact details?
  • Found this on youtube , any good ?

  • I was at the home leg absolutely loved it...

I know almost every word of this had it on VHS and watched it every night after school... obsession...
  • Reid at 6.28mins... I used to always wonder why no one got wise, he must have done that 50 times throughout his career...
  • Oh no!! none of the Charlton goals...

I only realised that after posting , seems strange to only show the Leeds goal .

  • What a player garth crooks was in those games showed a tonnage of bottle took no prisoners in the tackles either
  • I was one of the outnumbered few- it was a very intimidating atmosphere but a brilliant feeling.
  • i was all three games,wonderful displays
  • one of those where you had to be there. Went by coach, jimmymelrose bunked off school early, outnumbered but fun. Racing back to the coach afterwards and straight into work at about 2am to finish off the overnight computer run. Stopped in the Old Kent Road at about 7am on way home to buy the papers to make sure I hadn't dreamt it. Happy days indeed.
  • Yep I was at all 3, after the St Andrews game all the coaches stopped at Watford Gap services
  • highlights here.
jumpy at first andtaking a while to load but that could be my 'puter.

Did I really bunk off school early? I can't believe Mum let me do that. Wasn't it during half term?
Whatever the case, I can safely say that none of my classmates ever experienced anything like that. The race back to the coach to escape the Leeds fans was both scary and exhilarating.

This is good. There are some other good videos here too. Just watched the half time of the 'last match' at The Valley.

  • When John Sheridan’s free kick hit the back of the net, I was convinced that was it. But we had some real characters in that team and I shouldn’t have been surprised by the comeback. The only disappointment was that all three goals were scored at the opposite end, so didn’t fully appreciate that the winner came from a perfectly worked free kick routine that the players involved must have worked on for hours.
That night is in my top five all time favourite games.
Still my favourite ever. I know I was hoarse at the end of it. Great game (we deserved to win in normal time) but what a finale!
  • Has anyone got a photo of Kevin Nolan celebrating at full time? It was in Voice of The Valley a few years ago. His son is looking for it.
  • Better by far than the Sunderlands. Proper jeopardy and away at Elland Road was edgy in a way nothing is these days.
    Agree 100%

Those games were the business and the St Andrews' match is easily the tops of all time for me.
  • Highlights of the game are up on the official site. What a night that was. Was there and at Elland Road too.
  • I was at all the play matches in 87 - Elland Road was scary - St Andrews was a great evening, albeit rather dangerous post match - thankfully I was 16 so I could pretty fast back then !!!

Back to The Valley, all three play-off ‘finals’, I don’t think anyone can argue with those four, the fifth is up for discussion, though.

Would have to be the '47 final surely.
