Thiery Racon subbed

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
Haven't had a chance to get on here much this week but did anybody else find ita strange move to take Racon off on Saturday? Was he injured or are is there a buyer in for him? He did well at Spurs and if we can get money for him we may be able to adjust things in central midfield by bringing a more creative player in to play alongside Semedo.

  • I thought it was a good management call actually, a player that more than most can get comfortable and a bit lazy when he feels his place in the team is secure...subbing him off keeps him on his toes.
  • It was an inspired sub by Powell, one that changed the game for the better, he switched Waggy to the wing and put McCormack with Semedo, because he is more defensive than Racon..
  • But what did the bloke who came on for him do?
  • It paid off in the end, but for the first five to ten mins until we settled down, there was a gaping hole in the middle - I commented at the time that it was only once Racon had gone off that you realised how much he'd been doing.

Think SCP has taken him under his wing, though - when there was an injury much earlier in the game, Racs went over to SCP and they were having a good long chat.
  • I thought it wasnt too clever myself....we lost our shape after he went off and looked disjointed. However, we did score, so I guess it didnt matter....good learning curve for Powelly
  • McCormack had one of his better games and the negative impact on him of taking him off was surely a consideration. When the person who comes on scores it can hardly be called a wrong decision.

I agree with you, we looked out of sorts once he come off (I think it exposed mccormack in the middle of the park, because he looked ok when he played on the right). I think we do need another cm, someone who can create something out of nothing and add a few goals here or there too! I do notice that semedo and racon dont bomb into the box when we have the wall on either wing. One of them shoould always be making a run into the opposistion box, while one stays back and covers. This dosnt really happen and so our wingers often only have one or 2 players to aim for. I think we need to get a player who can make them late runs into the box, it would cause teams so many problems!
  • I think that the substitution was more about helping McCormack's confidence, who might have felt a bit put out being placed on the right of midfield when his stongest position is in the middle. It showed McCormack that Powell will trust him to play there and maybe he'll get a start if Racon/Semedo's form drops or if McCarmack continues to improve his displays.
  • Perfect sense to me. McCormack in the middle to hold on to the lead and Waggy and Reid wide to give us natural width and pace to keep their fullbacks in their own half where we wanted them to be (they'd have been a bit more comfortable pushing on vs. Oxo and Jacko on the grounds that they could catch them up).
  • Racon's name is Therry. Not Thierry or Thiery or Terry.

  • I thought it was a good sub. We looked a bit lopsided after reid came on so moving wagstaff to the right evened things up with two natural wide players. And he probably wanted to bring on eccleston to make an impact off the bench with his pace up front....it worked

He likes to be referred to as Tel or The Racster. FACT!
  • Just surprised Tezza went off - I look at both him and Semedo as spoiling midfielders (admittedly Racon slightly less so) rather than creative but i won't going into that again and Maccormack as a puff of wind unfortunately. Maybe that was clouding my view but certainly i would sooner have Racon holding the fort than Oxo who ends up getting knocked over every time the ball goes near him. Just looking at all the possible angles on that substitution.
  • If anything it's Rackinson
  • Personally I'd say that Racon is a more offensively minded player than McOxo and so where we needed to keep it tight and battle in the middle, McOxo was a better option to do that. You only have to look at his disciplinary record compared to Therry's to see that....
  • For me he's Rackers.
  • For me a simple The Rack or Snoop Racky Rack, if I'm feeling more lyrical
  • Everyone at the club especially around training all call Racon 'T', FACT!
