I think we're underestimating how "straight" Chris could be.
I fully expect him to be quite "hard" when he needs to be, you don't achieve how much he has both on the pitch and at the PFA without a ruthless streak in my opinion.
With Chris with I get it could be the whole 'Iron Fist in velvet glove' scenario- very nice bloke UNTIL you get him annoyed and then he'll let you know in no uncertain terms. Don't know much about Dyer as a player/coach but if he's the man Chris has singled out then I'm in no position to say otherwise.
He played left back against us for Oxford Utd but always played up front for us or wide left. Didn't have any pace but had a very decent touch. His goalscoring record wasn't great but he did get some good ones (a bit like Paul Benson!)...bullet headers v Everton and Bristol Rovers and a brilliant curler v Bristol City, all at Selhurst.
My concern is there seems to be alot of job promotions - CP to manager - AD to Assistant and DM to First Team coach .... I think we need someone who's done the role before who can come in without "find my feet at this role" experience!
Just added this is not yet confirmed - this was what Talksport said this morning
Just also wanted to add that we should bear in mind that great footballers don't tend to make great managers and coaches so maybe lesser names at this stage could be tomorrows Mourinho and Clarke combo...
As a player i don't think he was too special , i honestly didn't know he was involved in coaching ( especially at West Ham) lack of ignorance maybe on my part , but surely you have to trust Chrissy Powell , after all he's the one who is going to work with him.
I too was hoping to bring in a hard nut , kick butt type of person but maybe that appraoch doesn't work in modern day football, as long as it works i don't care either way.

Agreed. I was staring into the potholes at Sparrows Lane this morning and one of the ground staff reliably told me Sir CP kicks cats. Real mean streak.
It's important that CP brings in somebody he like and respects not only in football terms but also a a man. They need to have a rapore and be able to work together both on and off the training ground. Appointing a "hard nut" would be a disaster if Chris couldn't feel comfortable with him. I trust CP to pick the right man for him.

Gone even further up in my estimation.
