Two weeks in and already made huge changes and in so doing radically changed the public view of him.
If you watch the press conference with him and Powell the change is clear from the announcement of the takeover.
Can we trust a man who flip-flops like this?
The key question remains "Slater, what happened to your quiff?"

he said "it's a one for money, two for the show, three to ready, now go cats go"
From what I remember it went something like this.
"Addressing the media at The Valley on Monday afternoon as he was officially unveiled as the club's 20th permanent boss, Powell admitted that he would be looking to dip into the transfer market before the window closes at the end of the month.
But he also declared that those players who have found themselves on the fringes of the first XI of late will be given the chance to impress.
"I want to look at all the players," said Powell. "There are a number of players who haven't been involved who might just be inspired and make a difference for us.
"You always like to add to your squad, but it won't be easy. We need the fans to believe in us and what we're trying to do. And I have to produce a team that does that for them."
Powell watched from the stands as Charlton drew 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday.
The Addicks raced into an early 2-0 lead, but the Owls hit back in the second half to snatch a share of the spoils and Powell reflected: "If we start the first six minutes of every game like that, it will be great! It was a wonderful start and I was hoping we could build on it, but Wednesday got the start they wanted in the second half.
"I saw some resilience, though, which was good. I don't know many of the players, but some of what I saw was very good. There are obviously some areas that we're going to work on, that's natural.
"Going away to Sheffield Wednesday, you'd take a point beforehand, and if you pick up points on the road, it's about what you do on your home ground. That's one thing we've got to change, we've got to make The Valley a fortress again."
A true favourite with the fans at Charlton, Powell's first steps into management are sure to produce some testing times.
Yet whatever the result on the day, Powell wants the Charlton supporters to leave the stadium with pride in their team's efforts.
"People are proud of Charlton Athletic," he continued. "We want them to be bouncing when they leave. Even if we lose, I want them to be proud that the players have represented them in the way they'd like.
"The people who pay their money to come and watch their team on a Saturday, they've been working all week, and even if we're not playing well, we need to show them that the players are proud to play for their club.
"I want to win games. I want my team to play with some confidence. It's hard when you come halfway through a season. Normally, you stamp your authority during pre-season. We're going to work hard and I want them to excite not only me, but the crowd.
"I want them to express themselves, but you only get the right to express yourself through sheer hard work."
After three playing spells with the Addicks, Powell has most recently been working as a first-team coach at Leicester City before the call from SE7 proved too strong to resist.
Asked if he was 'too nice' for management, Powell responded: "If you have a football career for 24 years, you've got to have something in your system that says 'I want to play and be the number one'.
"You don't always have to outwardly show that, but I've realised there are times as a coach that you have to show it and be a strong and forceful manager, but you have to pick and choose your moments."
Powell is yet to make a decision on the identity of his backroom staff, but he confirmed that he'd like Damian Matthew and Keith Peacock to both have roles in his coaching team.
Addicks legend Peacock agreed to act as caretaker manager following Phil Parkinson's departure, and has been assisted by development coach Matthew.
"Keith and Damian will be staying here, and I'll be hoping to add to that," Powell said. "Keith is synonymous with this club and his knowledge will help me.
"It [the assistant manager role] is something I have to look at. I've got three or four names in my head. It's important you get the right people in alongside you."
Meanwhile, Powell confirmed that his days of jumping out of the tunnel after a Charlton win were now gone.
Since his departure as a player, that responsibility has fallen on the shoulders of Rob Elliot, and Powell was happy for the goalkeeper to continue that role.
"That was part of my playing days," smiled Powell. "That's in my past now. I'd love Rob to be doing it every week as it means we've been successful!
"Little things like that help us. I've always felt players should have an affinity with the supporters. There are a lot of fans out there who wish they could pull on the red shirt of Charlton, but only a chosen few can."
Meanwhile, chairman Michael Slater revealed that the managerial position at the club had been in high demand following the departure of Parkinson.
"We got close to 40 applications and we interviewed four," said Slater. "Picking the right manager is more art than science.
"Chris was the last that we saw, although that wasn't in order of preference. There was just something about him. Perhaps it's the confidence of having a long and successful playing career or working with Sven-Goran Eriksson.
"You could say any manager's a risk, but we don't see him like that at all."
He added: "Funds are available. Now that Chris has started, we'll be assessing what targets he has in mind and we'll hopefully go out and get them."
Mr Slater,
Firstly (it's been bugging me for ages): Are you related to Morrissey and can you get him to perform Everyday is like Sunday before every match as watching Charlton over the recent years has very much felt like that?
Secondly, if you want to unite the fans and win them all over then appoint Chrissy Powell as first team coach, perhaps throw in Alan Curbishley for good measure, you can decide what job title to give the latter.
You know it makes sense!
1. Chris Powell is now our manager, thank you sir!
2. The quiff has now gone, I was on to him, I received no reply from Mr Slater, his silence speaketh volumes and the rest is history!
Going from what we know as well as rumour's knocking about on other threads I'm assuming they were:
Eddie Howe
Andy Scott
Chris Powell
plus one other? any ideas? Steve Clarke maybe?
I'm convinced Powell will be successful. If you look at his career he personally does not fail at anything. Even though i'd like us to go up i'm going to write off anything that happens for the remainder of the season with squad assessment, bringing in back room staff etc a lot of work needs to be done.
NLA claimed it was Tisdale but I wouldn't believe a word he says : - )
Johnson seems to have suggested he was interviewed on Soccer AM so maybe Slater wasn't counting Howe
Johnson seemed to suggest very strongly that he was interviewed, There has been no official response from CAFC or Howe that he was interviewed,
But i can not see how a man who doesnt open his mouth when talking other than to show his teeth are funny and dont open could be interviewed.
(Check out Howes interviews he has a weider mouth than Gordon Brown)
The old board said the next manager would be judged on results. 8 winless games later he got offered a contract.
Whilst questioning their judgement I still trusted and put faith in them.
Its an unsettling transitional period with strangers moving into our "cosy home" which has been kept by familiar faces for so long so obviously there will be scepticism. However ll reserve judgement based on their actions rather than words which are ten for a penny in football and may always change despite best intentions and give them time to see what they are all about.
If the new board act in a way that I dislike ill get on their case and question their intentions and trustworthyness then but based on actions I like what ive seen thus far.
the trouble is theres not much more than 2 weeks to go of the window.
think I may have misinterpreted the original post when i first read it and taken the trusting slater bit too literally!
LOL, maybe : - )
Note the plural.
