Sunday league only now managing/coaching a youth team in Enfield doing my levels through the fa coaching system, aim to be next charlton mgr after chrissy and then the england job before i am 50
Mad keen on football, supported and watched Charlton since the age of 8/9.
Went to a rugby playing school, gutted, break time footie and park kickabouts.
No footie activity from about 15 to about 23!
Friday after work 5 a sides and games from 23 to about 45.
Player from about age 26(crap midfielder, very hard working, scored about 4 wonder goals a season) for Kidbrooke Academicals in the Woolwich and District league.....lost a match 0-20and won a match 20-0 during those years!
Ran/coached several schoolboy teams in matches meeting players such as Rio Ferdinand, briefly taught Ben Chorley (now Orient), most successful side captained by Michael Turner when we won the Blackheath Cup, and the all London cup every year. (one final was against Northbrook where the HT was Philip Don...the ref didn't turn up, so we had Don in all his fifa finery as ref!)
Qualified as a Ref in early 80's and reffed in nearly all the local leagues mentioned above. Vets being by far the best to ref..the Maccabi league the worst.
Always been a Charlton season ticket holder, amateur expert on all things footie!!
[cite]Posted By: Stefco[/cite]AFKA, who did you play for? It wasn't Y.M.C.A or S.T.M. or Senrab was it?
STM. When i joined them there was rumours going round that they had bought me a BMX to join them which wasn't true, and when i left 6 years later the manager rung up a couple of days later to say there were rumours going round i had joined Senrab and had they offered anything. He couldn't get his head around i just weren't enjoying it.
You were a decent player then, that's for sure! All STM teams were b'stardly good. I think my best result in 4/5 meetings was a 0-10L. The worst being a 1-18 L. Against STM, the aim was always to keep the defeat in single figures, or at least grab a goal. Anything else was a serious bonus. The only team in my time, that were their biggest challengers were Selsdon Juniors, but nothing really stood in the way of the relentless machine that was STM. :-D
I remember the rumours of bribery to join the teams, & secretly wished I would be asked to join. I could've done with a Raleigh Burner at that point! ;-)
How old are you now then AFKA? My first encounter with STM was at U10 level, season 86/87 but I was 7 years old at the time. If you are 34/35, you most likely would've been part of the side giving us a spanking. :-)
[cite]Posted By: carlingaddick[/cite]Pheonix & Junior Robins in my younger days
Barnehurst FC
Currently play saturdays for Lloyds Bank, home ground is Kent Crickt Ground in Beckenham
What years did you play for Junior Robins? In my time there, I played under Jim Wyatt, & then Bob Ridgewell. We signed a player who had previously played for Pheonix. Kevin? Is that you? :-) Small chance, I'm sure a fair few players swapped beteeen those sides over the years.
Only ever played Sunday league in the Bromley & Orpington league, with the highlight being a cup final victory and Bromley Fc in front of a couple of hundred, happy days.
