the ethos of the players, I am hoping that Powell will actually INSPIRE, something we havnt seen for several years at the Valley, the last time we had inspiration was Curbishley and more so at the beginning of the premieship years, when he got us up and then got us up again...
So 2 things
1 To make us bolt hard, a backbone, a passion(IE you want to win, you are going to have to KILL me)
2 To sell the players on their own ability, a managers job is to bring out the best in an individual, and often that can be juding the right blend of carrot and stick, some players need an arm round them, some need a rocket up their bum(usually the ones that have more talent) ... so to get the best out of the players to make the team once again become more than the sum of its parts..
And overall continue to show the integrity that has got him so far in his career up until now...
I would start by making changes to the back four, with a view to recucing the number of goals that we concede. It's the place that good Managers normally begin, and gives the team a sound foundation for moving forward. Results in football often conceal the truth, after being two goals up in six minutes we could easily have finished two or three goals down.
I would stop the players from having a nap at half time and then coming out half asleep and conceding silly goals. Happened under Pardew, Parky, Peacock and so Powelly needs to arrest this
In fact I would inject them with cocaine straight into their eyeballs just before returning to the pitch

A) Yes he needs to look at the defence - why does it lose concerntration at important times? B) He needs to make us less cautious - in recent away games against some of the best opposition at this level, we have gone out positively and got ourselves into winning positions- there is then a tendancy to sit on it and defend when we should try to get more. Ok it might backfire but if it works 50% of the time- you accrue more points. C) Finally, he has to have a plan for playing against teams who get their defenders back to frustrate us at the Valley. I would say the tempo of our play- quality of our passing and movement being the key factors.

More movement off the ball - we have been very static for several seasons now, yet this is how you create space eg when the opposition put two or three players on Reidy.
You realise that "Alamo" defending is not going to get us out of this division and you plan on replacing the entire back four and set the side up to defend further up the pitch.
Weggie- couldn't agree more. In a boring match as most of our home games are, not much better to do that analyse an aspect of the play and our front men can be very static e.g. seeming to me to mark the defenders rather than the other way round. We have been unfortunate to have Anyinsah injured but we need to bring in energy, pace and movement into a forwards and wide men. On paper, we have the players to do this.
Come up with a formation and system, a style of play, attacking passing football but without making us a team that can only play one way. Get the first team, reserves (hopefully back in a league next season) and all the youth teams playing it. To do that it also means signing players that can play or at least learn the system, and selling others that won't suit it. It would take time but with Powell in charge I think both the fans and board would be more patient than they would with other managers.
Just got in turn on ssn and the man himself is on. Bloody right at the end of interview going to have to watch an hour of this cack until he comes on again

This
EASY.
I want nothing less than a 7% imported larger.
Is that to deaden the pain of the football?
No, to enhance it!
And also because I like beer to taste like beer.
