Saved a point with a last minute clearance off the line, looked a difficult clearance too.
Which suggests he wasn't marked on his actual performance.
Francis played very well at Spurs against good players - maybe it's time the prejudice against him was dropped?
Francis 6 Usual - Decent coming forward, put in some good crosses, but suspect defending & passing all over the place when the presuure was on.
Doherty 6 Good solid game, but slow to react to their 1st goal
Dailly 7.5 Good solid game
Fry 6 Good 1st half, 2nd half looked nervous & kept giving the ball back to them or kicking it off
Jackson 7.5 Good solid game
Semedo 6 Very good first half, disappeared somewhat 2nd half, didn't make himself available enough
Racon 6 Same as Semedo & just after I said he wasn't getting involved he was subbed. I suppose he may have had a knock.
McCormack 7 Good game tried hard & was more involved the Semedo & Racon
Wagstaff 7.5 Best game for a long time, much more involved & extra half point for the goal
Anyinsah 6 Looked dangerous gave them problems, only a 6 because he couldn't last for more than an hour
Sodje 6 Ran around & made a bit of a nuisance, but didn't look dangerous
Overall we cruised the first half hour & then Sheff W came back at us. Ref gave them a very soft pen which Elliot saved superbly. 0-2 HT.
2nd half they stormed us from the KO & we crumbled letting in 2 in the 1st 6 mins. Thre crowd got behind them & we looked very nervous. The defence couldn't clear their lines especially Francis & Fry but I feel the midfield must take a lot of the blame for this, because they weren't making themselves available for the pass. As we have often seen when the going gets tough the midfield go missing.
Anyway we held on just, with Sheff W hitting the inside of the post in stoppage time. We just about deseved the point for our excellent start & the fact that we did hang on. But on chances I reckon they beat us comfortably.
Francis 7 generally solid
Doherty 7 commanded the high balls into the box
Dailly 7
Fry 6 targetted yet again in the second half you could see him crumble, not sure if JJ could have given more support
Jackson 6.5 queit second half
Semedo 7.5 assured
Racon 7 busy
McCormack 6.5 doesn't concentrate 100% at short corners
Wagstaff 7 they didn't know how to pick him up in teh 1st half
Anyinsah 8 ran the back to ragged
Sodje 5 painful to watch
n/a Eccleston 6.5 good cameo
n/a Reid 6
Defence are at sixes and sevens when facing Elliot, need a pacy central defender too. Waggy excellent until he got nobbled. Can't understand why Joe was taken off unless he was injured and that McCormack was kept on instaed of Racon. Sodje was a waste of space. At the death he was so clueless that Peacock had to bawl at him to get back to defend the corner... it seems he had forgotten.
Need a couple of changes in the back four we are leaking unnecessary goals
Hes a bad player and unfortunately he deserves any criticism he gets. Yes he was in the right place to make that clearance and got us a point but he allowed to many crosses into our box and Luckily dailly was able to win his headers.
The point at when ecclestone battled hard and won the ball back in the corner, laid it back to Francis and he had a touch of a baby rhino and went out for a throw sums him up for me. He's nonleague standard
He had a terrible game yeseterday ,crap touch as ValleyGary said but also bad awareness
At some point yesterday ,near the end, we were attacking and looked to be on the front foot a pass to Francis he waits to long and a sheff weds player comes up behind him and he gets tackled, shockingly bad and i dont think he realises as there is no competition for his place
I hope Chris Powell gets somebody else in or at least tries Jenkinson as what i saw of him against brentford was rather good.
When at Southend his manager once described him as "the best attacking right back in League 1". Unfortunately he also added "if he defended as well as he attacked then he would be in the PL."
He also turned down moves to Peterboro and Brentford.
Clearly he has some ability but at 25 with 250+ league under his belt you would have thought he had got the defending bit right by now.
As someone who prefers full backs to be defenders first and footballers second can he improve or do we need to move on.
Francis - 6 - 1st half really good
Doherty - 5 - Becoming less and less convincing
Dailly - 5 - And again
Fry - 6
Jackson - 6 - Steady Eddie
Semedo - 6 - Looked pumped up for this one
Racon - 5 - Not up to his usual standard
McCormack - 6 - 1st half played well , went off with a knock ? faded in the 2nd half
Wagstaff - 6 - 1st half caused all sort of problems
Anyinsah - 5 - looked off the pace , can only last 60 mins
Sodje - 5
n/a Eccleston - 6 - Pacey , not enough time on pitch to make an impact
n/a Reid - 5 - Not enough time on the pitch to make a difference
