The majority of us would agree now that we are happy with the choice of manager. Sir Chris has masses of experience playing under some very good managers,. He was the consumate professional and is loved pretty much EVERYWHERE he has played. He is also likely to have a large number of contacts in the game from his PFA days aswell as ex colleagues (I'd hope he can ask Curbs for a few tips along the way)
The majority of us would agree that the new ownership was a necessity and - since Murray and Varney are still involved you would assume the new owners are planning on doing things in the right way. The fact that Powell has agreed to come back tells me he has received reassurances that he will be able to do things his way and that the owners intentions are noble. Chris speaks rather vocally about the money in the game being obscene and that players and managers are no longer in touch with the general public so I hope that his decision to come here is a sign that the future is rosier than the last few years and that he wants to bring the Charlton spirit back that was evident when he played for us
Another thing we should note is that in Chris Powell and Tony Jimenez we are suddenly very well connected in the game - as evidenced by the loan capture of Nathan Eccleston. When were we last able to loan a Liverpool first team squad member - hopefully this is the first of many
Could it be that the worm has turned - could we be about to see brighter days returning to The Valley?
Personally I am not expecting promotion this season - I predict a period of assembling a squad and a change to the way we play before a tidy finish to the season and we come flying out of the traps next year.
I also expect CP to lead us for a fair few years and hope he can bring us the glory years
Welcome home to the nicest bloke in football
We salute you!
