One thing does puzzle me though...

With everyone so pleased about the Chris Powell appointment (me included), why was he not mentioned by anyone before the appointment? We all knew he was potentially available. Yet in all the posts I read speculating/eulogising about new potential managers before today, not a single mention.

Why?

  • Well me personally I thought he wasn't available. Leicester turned down Newcastles approach a couple of weeks ago so I thought he was out of reach. Not saying he was my first choice but he would have been on my short list and one I'd have wanted the Board to at least interview for the post.
  • I didn't dare to hope the Board would be that brave.

    That too !!
  • I knew all along, I didn't dare say anything for fear of it being leaked to the press.
  • I thought someone did mention him on here?

Hope Powell got more comments than Chris at the time.
  • I think he was mentioned as a possible fans 'sweetener' as manager to partner DW as Director of Football.
I still think this could happen.
  • I only form my opinions after events take place
  • The truth for me is that I had thought of him but quickly dismissed it as I thought he wasn't available and I was just being silly. Dreams don't come true etc. I also thought I would get shouted down by cries of 'no experience', so maybe others felt the same and just kept quiet. Eddie Howe seemed a more realistic idea so I plumped for him.
  • There was a thread on here yesterday, on which I showed my usual aplomb by suggesting that it would be more of a sentimental appointment than a sensible one. I am currently trying to wipe the egg off my face, which is hard to do when I am wearing a ridiculously big grin.

    1. He, or Leicester, turned down Newcastle so I though it was a no go.
    2. Never, in a million years, thought the new board would put 'our man' in, I was expecting 'their man'. They have gone right to the top in my opinion of them. Even if Dennis Wise comes in some capacity, which I think is a strong possibility.
