  • When do you have to take it back...after the game ends i imagine ie we dont miss any of the game do we?

Will have to stuff it back into the Cricket bag it lives in after it has gone round. Best if someone just keeps the bag with them and takes it back after the game. Will have ground passes so can jump over fence back into the stand.

We're in the NU, so jumping over a fence isn't really an option...and certainly not at my age!

If this is going to happen, can whoever is in charge eg Olly whisper me with proper instructions eg meeting time, place, and info on how to get back to NU seats without missing teams coming out/ kick-off?

    Cheers.
  • Does it mean the helpers will be on the pitch near the tunnel when the teams come out..................? ive never seen it go round so dont know how it works so am interested to know.
  • OK, just spoke to John Little (hi John, I said I'd give you a name check)

He's gonna check that the flag is still there but assuming it is all OK for Saturday.

six ground passes at main reception in Olly's name. Suggest you meet at Bartram Statue at 2.30 and wear your Charlton Life badges so you know each other
  • Thanks, Henry. Scratch the above apart from the bit re getting back to seat in NU.

as they will have passes they can go anyway. I think Alex Wright or Rothko blagged his way into the players lounge after one game.

Normally start the flag off at the north west corner of the covered end lower so right next to the tunnel. Get there early and can see the players warm up close up.
  • Weegie,

Go to the NW corner and ask the steward there. There is a sort of side door into the NU if I remember rightly.

    Marvellous, thanks.

Looking forward to meeting Olly and Rodney - assuming John can find the flag ;-)

  • suggested to John that the container where it, the drums and other flag is kept needs clearing out.

Maybe in the summer I'll see if I can organise a free guided tour of the Valley in return for a few hours work throwing all the rubbish in it into a skip

Does it not have loads of ST applications in that place? Think it may need properly destroying!

I think it does. Club is going to check what needs to be done.
  • All sounds good guys! Look forward to meeting you all Saturday
  • Well done guys. Got the timing spot on and looked good going around.

Anyone want to have a go for the peterboro match?

Any feedback from those who did it? Any problems other than moaning fans : - )
  • Thanks for doing this, it made me smile.
  • Well done to all of you, I sat in the NW corner for this game and could see you all there getting ready for the big moment, great effort and it was good to see it back and going round the ground.
  • sould try again for the exeter match as there will be a bumper crowd
was great to see it going round again
  • Well done to everyone involved it looked great from where I was... those shepherding the flag did a fantastic job as I thought it was going to struggle to get round to be honest.

One question... that may well be a stupid one... the West Lower is probably as a % more densely populated than the East - is it because the flag would have to pass over the directors' box that it doesn't come around this way or are there other logistical difficulties?
  • Thanks very much guys. Hope you all know it was appreciated because it definately was. It looked great going round and plays its part in building the atmosphere before a game (even if it just gets people remembering when we had bigger crowds!). Everyone around me in the North Upper was watching it go round. Hope it can continue although I realise numbers are hard to come by.

P.S- to all those moaning at proper fans trying to do something positive on a matchday, you're a disgrace

  • When we first did the big big flag we started by the scoreboard and it went around via the east, north and west.

I was told away directors (newcastle) complained so since then it gone clockwise from the NW corner or the upper north.

So damo, you gonna help v exeter? Anyone else.
  • I would help Henry but i'm only 15 and would have to leave straight after the match for the valley express :(
  • No probs and really good to meet you Olly and Weegie.

Weegie, I realised when i got back to my seat that I completely misheard a question you asked me over the crowd noise and that the answer i gave was probably quite prattish in light of what i realised you had actually asked me! Ill whisper you next time you're on here and explain as i felt a right numpty. ;-)
  • Was pleased with how that went. Thought there would'nt be a big enough crowd for it to work properly as we started but it went ok! Thanks for your help guys, was nice meeting you all. Need to sort out that steward by the North East Quadrant who decided we weren't allowed to walk pitchside to get back to our seats. How am I going to get back to the West Stand then genius!? Never had a problem before, he just felt like causing one. Apart from that it went swimmingly!
Happy to take the reigns again for Exeter. Volunteers welcome!
  • I'm handing this over to Olly now
  • Olly is our leader

Roll up roll up and help Olly. Great chance to go pitchside and see the action close up while helping to bring a little bit of the buzz back to the Valley.
  • Enjoyed doing that - especially being target practice for our strikers in the warm-up! Can thoroughly recommend to any future volunteers. Glad it looked good and was appreciated. Nice to meet Olly, Rodney and pals. Looking forward to your whisper, Rodney - I'm intrigued!!

Thanks Rothko, it's an honour. I'll do you proud! (Blatently going to go round the ground upside down next time, now I've said that.)
