[cite]Posted By: Nadou[/cite]Is he likely to command the respect of first teamers given that most of his work has been with the academy?
After the Les Reed fiasco that would be my big concern.
I can't answer that question. But would the first teamers respect someone who they know has been kicked out from elsewhere?
And Boogica - why do you think he is all 'nicey nicey'? Do you know him? Have you seen him at work with players? Or are you just unswervingly convinced that we need a man of iron from somewhere who will come in and 'kick arse'? Like who?[/quote]
just think we had les reed ,then pardew after him his right hand man parky its time for a change someone with fresh ideas motivation not saying having ago at damien matthew he has done agood job up till now just think its time for the club to employ someone who is going to take this club out of this poxy league with their own ideas , dont think he could do that.
So far his teams are encouraged to play passing flowing football.
He already works for us, no major uprooting and so on.
He will have more knowledge about all of our players, especially those from the Academy, than a new arrival.
He will know about decent up and coming players from elsewhere.
In partnership with Keith (Damian was the one prowling the technical area at WHL) they set the team up well for Spurs and we avoided the expected humiliation.
He is likely to be affordable.
Young(ish) and hungry(?)
Disadvantages are the no experience/unknown quantity at this level factor.
Probably limited knowledge about available journeyman league players we maybe could sign.
Not a 'name' of any kind (but also untarnished).
If Keith and Damian were given the job to the end of the season to start with, that's gotta be a better option than Wise in my book...or we could take the kind of risk Crystal Palace are taking and bung a 'doubtful' a two and a half year contract.
Of the many options suggested Damian Matthew is by no means the worst.

100% agree
J i think we have a man here at our club with a very bright managerial future infront of him, his football standards and beliefs are how we all want our team to play
flowing passing football with a real bite to their play
one day one place someone will get the real deal with this guy

not disagreeing with his ability just think the players know him to well and dont think we could afford another les reed turn out.
i think under reed we looked like a team playing for a nice uncle, when you talk to those who have worked with him they say that he is excellent but not ready, now there may be legs in that but if he got us playing the right way i think people would have more tollerance
Well the Chris Powell news is on the table, but assuming that is not going to happen I stand by what I wrote. All new managers are a risk, but certainly Matthew/Peacock until the end of the season is a more calculated risk than many other names touted about.
Blimey. Thought he would be operating at a higher level than Conference South.
He should be, but times are hard. I'm just glad he's got something and hope he can work his way back up again but really wish he was still with us as part of that successful trio of him and Alex Dyer and SCP. Good luck, Damian.
That in a nutshell is why Charlton will always attract applications despite the RD/KM factor. For Matthew to be coaching so far down the ladder shows hard it is to get work

Agreed.
Welling are showing ambition by taking on Matthew, unlike us.
