[cite]Posted By: UP...THE...ADDICKS[/cite]Dougie Freedman in perm... Cheap, easy option... Lets hope theyre on their way down!
I don't know ....... always a good player for them (Lord knows how many goals he scored against us over the years), and been on the coaching staff there for a couple years now. So Palace know what they are getting.
Has that dogged Scots mentality of never knowing when he's beaten.
I think he'll surprise a few people.
Looking on their boards they are virtually all very happy, as they love him & didn't fancy the possible alternatives. At least he will have 100% fan backing (until they start losing).
Pretty weak appointment. But arguably they couldn't see a better alternative? There are a lot of failed managers out there. And not a lot of good ones who are readily available, as we are probably discovering ourselves.
At least they didn't let Dougie caretake eight games without a win and THEN confirm him permanently. They've realised that in a relegation struggle, decisiveness is likely to pay a better dividend than dithering.

Or given him a long contract despite never being a manager...
Oh wait, no, they've given him a 2 1/2 year deal.
It'll probably work out for them. Yet if we made one of Powell/Brown/Dailly/Matthew manager you can just imagine it all going wrong.
One less club in competition for a manager at least.

I'll give him till November 2011 and they will be looking for another manager, to me it looks like they have got bored of looking, rather than looked for whats best they have gone for an easy option. For those that felt appointing Parkie was wrong because he was part of the regime already established in decline and lacking the ability to bring new momentum by being new this is no different.
[cite]Posted By: bigstemarra[/cite]What Sadie and Oggy said...there's no telling how it could work out, but the bloke is 100% Nigel, so he could quite conceivably do it for them....
I'm sure Kinsella is/was 100% CAFC, but would you have been happy if he were given the job?

I hope you're right.
There's surprisingly quite a few Palace fans, although very much the minority, who are worried about the appointment.
In the past we've had two former legends (Kember and Taylor), and ultimately they ended disapointingly, although Kember did save us from relegation at Stockport.
I'm pleased we have someone in place while the transfer window is open, and hope that he hits the ground running, he already has a 100% winning streak in the league, hopefully he can keep that going, although it doesn't get much harder than a live game on Sky away to Swansea.
[cite]Posted By: carly burn[/cite]Gutted about Howe though Budgie?
Honestly?
Yes I think I am, he's got a proven record, and the only question marks really are lack of transfer dealings, and how he would operate out of his comfort zone (Bourenmouth).
However I'm pleased that Dougie has been given a chance, and I hope it works for both him and the club.
For me this type of appointment would be a nightmare. As we know there's always a fair chance of failure when a number two has to pick up the reins. Throw the fact that he's a club legend into the mix and it gives the fans and board a real problem if he fails to improve things - or even makes them worse. You're always going to be that bit more tolerant of a former hero, and that can mean not acting when you ought to.
Let's face it, he's will save them money on another striker as well. I always liked Dougie as a player but I suspect he may be a soft-option appointment and prove disastrous. Fingers-crossed.
Poor appointment in my opinion. Was coach under previous regime so should have gone with Burley, as Parky should have gone with Pardew. Will all end in tears, hopefully !!

Very quick appointment after seemingly missing out on EH.
I wish 'em all the best in their quest for relegation.

No doubt they will keep losing and stay in the bottom 3... I pray anyway.
What do you know about anything ? :-)
Who me .....? I know nothing. Bugger all. Not a sausage.

No not you Oggy, you know a great deal - must do as I always agree with you.
It was aimed at my mate East Terrace :-)

Good luck in your search.

3-0 down and more to come I think!
Yeah, they are getting mullered!
