I could take a guess, especially given the inaccuracy over the big man's career stats. He scored 14 times in 1991/2 and didn't leave for another six years.
Doesn't make for such an "interesting" angle though, does it Airman?
Everyone knows he had his faults and was never going to be the best player in the world - Jeez, he played for us for Gawd's sake, not Barcelona! - but he was a decent pro who did a job for us back in the day.
If Club legends like Lennie and Curbs understood and appreciated his worth to the team then that's good enough for me.
And I loved his Eastenders cameo on the link above - quality!

That "article" is diabolically patronising and insulting towards a bloke who played over 400 games in the top two divisions of English football - anyone who does that has to be a very, very decent player.
How the "author" can come out with lines like "he barely knew how to play football" is just so infantile and pathetic that words fail me as for claiming that Carlo was "not good in the air" well.......
Probably written by a real middle-class wanker (a la David Baddiel) who has never even played the game and who would shit his pants if Carlo confronted him about that piece as he would have every right to do.
Sure, you can write a critical piece about Leaburn if you want to but it does not have to have such a nasty tone.
Cant not mention the hatrick he scored away at Ipswich...with his feet! Cant remember now which season it was but such a great day. I loved watching him play footy. The opposition defence did not know how to handle him half the time!
I was in the studio with Adam when Carl was interviewed. I regressed to that shy teenager who would never utter a word when anywhere near the big man but would turn into a raving banshee if anyone slagged him off in my earshot.
Summed up supporting Charlton for me. A player who may not have been the best at what he did but gave his best everytime he pulled on our shirt. Shame we haven't had more like him.
And I'd still take on anyone who has the cheek to have a go at him. Especially as my Dads no longer around to tell me off ;-)

i will never forget the fella in the covered end with the cap (far to old to wear a baseball cap as well) giving leaburn dogs abuse on game after about 20 mins of putting up with his shite i went down and threatened to batter the crap out of him if he said 1 more word against the big man him and his groovy boys melted like chocolate in a pan
i am so glad i was not alone in my feelings for the big man, as once i had done it half the covered end cheered and he took the next opportunity to slope off back under his rock

I remember that vividly! You're my new hero NLA! Block F, I was about 16 at the time and that baseball cap tool had been a source of irritation for quite some time.
Could never understand why he would get some much grief from certain sections of our 'support'. Think they got most of their opinions from reading the media who treated Carl like some sort of joker for his goalscoring record when actually he contributed so much else to our side.
Proud to say I was at the Batle of the Bridge - his finest hour!
I always liked Carl Leaburn. As an out and out target man he was about the best around - even when compared to players in the Premier League, and on his day he was unplayable. Unfortunately I don't think he was quite aggressive enough as a striker to get the goals that he ought to have gotten. An example perhaps of someone who came into the team too early in his career....but at the time Lennie Lawrence just didn't have anyone else.
Didn't him and super clive have 1 season together with us I am sure mendonca stated he proffered to play with Carlo but a lot of drugs and alcohol may have caused that to be complete bollox

97/98 was Carl's last season at the club and Clive's first.
That Forest game was superb. Van hoojidonk had been out injured for a while in the build up and it was his return game. We were 2nil up at half time so they brought him off the bench to turn it around, and he scored about 10 minutes into the second half to make it 2-1. Alarm bells rang... but then we turned it up again and scored twice more to win 4-1, Mendonca scored a typical excellent finish, control one touch and nice finish into the corner from inside the box, all from a superb and precise knock down from leaburn. It was upsetting him leaving then. It was just starting to look like he had found the strike partner to get the best out of him, he could do his thing and Mendonca took the goalscoring pressure off him. Still, it worked out okay for us (and not so for Carlo), but it was sad the way he left all of as sudden after over ten years, no testimonial or goodbye or anything. Think he was on a rolling week-to-week contract.
Mind you, I do remember him missing some shockingly easy chances. my parents have got a school exercise book from when i was about 7, 92 / 93 time, and every monday obviously all the kids wrote a little story about what theyd done with their weekend. I remember vividly writing about some game with tranmere or leicester or sth that i'd been to, and it concluded with next week my dad is taking me to the derby match. i hope nelson plays instead of leaburn, leaburn is rubbish!
Think it was Garth Crooks who got the other one at Newcastle. They had stayed up due to other results and celebrated by invading the pitch at the end and trying to break the goal down a la Scotland at Wembley. It looked like a bit of a riot was brewing and OB gave everyone on the train a lift back to the station in their vans, but when we walked back to the motor the geordies were fairly jovial. Think they viewed the odd riot as a bonus on their season tickets TBH. Leaburn was unplayable that day, I don't think Newcastle knew what had hit them.
That's right. Big Will, crooksy got one ....
Yeah forgot about all the delirious geordies going mental at the end
Great days
Long but happy and hopeful coach journey home !
Although earlier in his career, he got a lot of stick from those who expected that an inexperienced 19 year old should perform like the finished article....... and a regular 20 goal season striker.
Mind you, may be hope for some players today - in 20 years time, just imagine the love fest on here for Frank Nouble.
Leaburn got 4 goals in his first 96 appearances I think , admittedly a load of them as sub ...... And he only scored at the 'parks' in those early days
