Good Riddance and all that jazz

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
So, Eddie stayed. Good for him.

Now, let's get beyond the what ifs of this and focus on what needs to be done before our next game. Finding someone better to manage.

My shortlist:
Mark Robins-Barnsley
Gary Johnson- sacked yesterday
John Sheridan- Chesterfield
Alan Knill-Bury
Darren Ferguson-free agent
Gary Waddock- Wycombe
Andy Hessenthaler-Gillingham

That's a realistic bunch. All their respective clubs aren't as financially or resourcefully capable as Charlton

Inputs welcome!

  • Andy Hessenthaler

you had me going for a minute there
  • lol andy hessanthaler
  • Do you think any of them are really an improvment on Parky?

Personally I was hoping for Howe. Now I don't know what I want. Maybe Andy Scott? It really depends on what sort of message the owners want to send out.

I see the odds on Hasselbaink have been shortened. If thats the case maybe Wise isn't such a bad idea after all, lol.

    Alan Knill-Bury

Jim Davidson would be back quicker than a rat up a drainpipe if we got in a manager called Knill !

    .
  • None of the above candidates are a major improvement on Phil Parksinson. I think the new owners will be looking for something better than that after sacking PP... shhhhurely?
  • I'd take Darren Ferguson with a few Man United youngsters on loan

    worked well for Preston ;)
  • Wouldn't suprrise me to see him back at Posh
  • Gary Johnson or possibly Fergie from that list.

to be honest it doesn't look that inspiring !

  • They said they were after someone with championship experience.
    Fergie jnr
    sousa
    johnson
    burley
    keane
    blackwell
just a taste of whats free.
  • Im going to strap my hat on before i say this:

I would love to see Keane at Charlton.

Not my cup of tea but some people like their music.. More likely to play the O2

    I was thinking the same.
  • I suppose my realistic choices would be out of Johnson, Fergie Jnr, Scott, Tisdale, maybe Sousa

Hardly whets the appetite though does it.
  • sousa does

Based on what? Only team he's managed for a full season were Swansea, and it was with Martinez's team.
  • Johnson or Hughton for me. Not sure Hughton would drop this low though.

Andy Scott is another who always seems to do well against us as a manager and Brentford are always a solid side, not sure if he is any better than Parky though.

If Wise was happening I think it would've been done by now so I can only think he doesn't fancy it.

No-one else I've seen on the list who I'd like to see in charge really
  • After this whole Howe saga it got me thinking.. do we want experience or youth? For me we should learn from mistakes, its time for experience, providing they still have the passion to suceed.

When Parkinson was at Colchester people seem to forget how he was branded about like the next big thing. Hull paid a big compensation fee for him when he was in a similar situation as Howe - even better he even got Colchester promoted from league 1. Love or hate Parkinson he got sacked last week.
When Curbishley left I remember Mick McCarthy was interviewed, people slated the idea he could become the next manager. Instead we employed shrek and Mick is currently a premiership manager. My point being that this club and current crop of players could do with a wise head (not a Dennis Wise head though).

    Gary Megson anyone ;-)

  • At least Johnson and Ferguson are free agents. Neither excites me. But going after someone else's manager eats up transfer window time and doesn't seem to get us very far.

Surely the main point of getting rid of Parkinson was that they didn't trust the bloke to spend their money, so while those saying we should take our time to make the right choice are obviously right , it's not the whole picture. Whoever they do trust to splash their cash needs to arrive in time to spend it.

As someone who accepted Parkinson could not continue , I have to say it is beginning to look a little foolish that they didn't have a better formulated plan on the succession before they decapitated him.
  • You would never have caught me saying this a few weeks ago. But let's get someone who we KNOW can do it. You all know who i mean. And it would certainly shut ooaah up. At least until we take less than 3000 to a london away game.
  • A list of the movers in management this season: http://www.leaguemanagers.com/managers/movers.html
I couldn't find their list of available managers, but this is pretty close. No doubt there are more unemployed out there.

I'm with Heaven SE7 that Parky was a hotly tipped manager back in his Colchester days, but hasn't pushed on as he & certainly others would have liked. With Howe, I would've been worrying the same. The hype is all well & good, but hes has only been at one club & is very young. That's not to say he isn't a good boss, just that he still has a lot to learn. If Poyet moved to another club there is no guarantee that he would be successful.

I'd take experience over hype. Gary Johnson or Lennie Lawrence for me!
  • Still think Martin Allen is in with a shout
  • [cite]Posted By: uncle[/cite]Still think Martin Allen is in with a shout
Don't think he is. Got told by someone at WHL on Sunday who spent an hour on the phone to him that he is happy out of football and enjoying organising events etc.

At least that's what I think he said - I'd had a few...
  • If we can't have Lord Curbs, I would rather see Sir Keith stay in post than see any of that sad list of losers and nobodies anywhere near SE7.
  • marradonna is available.........ok ok not the most popular man in england,! but it would put us on the map !!!
if we have loads of dosh ...why not ?
  • If all these threads are just picking managers out of the hat then I'll go for Martin O'Neill.

Has experience of lower league and can cut the mustard at top level and out of work.

    Probably can't afford him
Probably won't want the job in any case
Certainly better than the bunch at the top of this thread.
    Don't ask you don't get
  • If money was no object then why not?!

Seeing as we are going even further in to the silly season this is why not

    A druggy
    A cheat
    can't speak the lingo
    even more expensive than O'Neill.
