Suzie Sausage and Les Says......

......have certainly picked a bad time for their honeymoon in south-east Queensland.

Worst floods here since 1974, already 10 confirmed dead and around 80 people still missing.

From the Ashes thread it seems the honeymooners were flying home today and Noosa, their last destination, was not amongst the worst hit areas so they should be flying home wet but safe.

Terrible scenes here and things will get worse over the next two days before they get better, that is the expectation at least.

It certainly puts football into proper perspective.

Yes thanks Len, we are all well away from the trouble spots although many friends are affected.

Queensland Addick lives on the Sunshine Coast and that is getting an absolute pounding with every major river having broken its banks, he is probably in the best place if he is still in England.

The power of nature is unreal, it makes you realise how insignificant human activity really is.
  • I am sometimes in contact with Suzi on Twitter. She was at the Cricket in Melbourne and also, I think in Sidney. I know she is very friendly with Curb-it. I hope they are OK, I haven't heard anything for a while.

The floods are absolutely terrible. I hope that they soon abate.

They were going to Noosa for a couple of days after the Sydney Test Match and then flying home yesterday (I think).

They would have got wet at Noosa but would still have been able to get to the airport where flights are still running normally.
  • They should be on plane now as she text me on Monday. They had spent that day on the beach in the rain. So they were fine.

Looks terrible out there. Shocking to see.
  • Thanks for concern! Our apartment in noosa was at the top of the hill. Although we went to australia zoo sunday which they almost shut due to flooding! Got some funky poncho and waded thru water up to our knees looking at all the animals but it was brilliant and warm. Our trip to fraser island for mon was cancelled but rescheduled for tuesday so we did that. Bumpiest ride ever and pissed down all the way there and all the way back (although spotted dolphins). But for 2 hours when we were at lake mackenzie it was the most ideallic beautiful day ever and we both got burnt within 10 minutes. We made it back via rain soaked roadsto noosa ferry which was screwed so we waded through higher water onto a boat which transferred us and onto other buses to drop us home! Amazing resiliance and calm attitufe of the organisers. Although our situation wasn't as serious as it could have been.

Its been awful hearing the news even though we weren't affected its just awful what has happened and there is nothing anyone can do about it which is the worst thing.

Hope your family and friends are ok. Thanks again for concern. Our wading thru water and soggy shoes is nothing to complain about.

At hong kong airport now. Arrive home at 6am uk time tmrw. Will I need my sunglasses handy when getting off plane with The Ashes?
  • Suzi, great to learn that you are both fine. Its like a monsoon here this evening but nothing like the terrible scenes from Queensland.

    Take care.
  • Terrible seeing pictures on the news. Me and my girlfriend were in Oz, going up the east coast, in October and we (I especially) loved it all. Hope that everyone on here and families are ok.

Hope you had a good time Suzi, Noosa is a lovely place, despite us getting lost in the national park after the sun had gone down. Scary stuff. Glad you got lucky with Lake McKenzie on Fraser, it was a bit gloomy the day we were there and so couldn't quite see the clarity of the water.

And you are the envy of everyone to see England smash the Aussies!
