What if Eddie Howe does go to Crystal Palace?

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
Over the last week, we have all been wondering who are new manager may be? Dennis Wise or Eddie Howe, have seemed to be the two names that are getting most attention with this prolific job.

It seemed as if Eddie Howe was all set to go to us, until Palace put in an improved offer for the Howe.

So what if Howe does go to Palace, who do we reckon will be the right man to take us forward?

Comments

  • I hope he does go to Palace. Very worried that we may be employing an inexperienced manager who has played with and managed only one club. Hardly an aspirational appointment.
  • The last time we locked horns with Palace over a manager we won the battle and lost the war.

Might be a blessing in disguise if he does go there.
  • Didnt know much about Howe until my marathon stint on the Bournemouth Echo blog yesterday!! Now I want him to come because he seems so highly regarded and because if the new owners persuade him to choose us over Palarse it will be because they have convinced him we have money and ambition! And that would be the best news.

Otherwise Gary Johnson has a good track record and falling out with the Peterboro chairman is not that surprising. Didn't Darren Ferguson have the same problem?
  • According to today's Daily Mail, Palace have offered him more money but we have offered a bigger transfer pot which I regard as important good news for whoever the new manager is.
  • Just hope that its done today either way, getting fed up with this. Now I understand why the old board kept everything quiet until it was done, saved our nerves!!
  • I think that Slater and co. have been clever. Nothing official, just a smoke screen about Howe. Why do you think that Beckham is in town? He wouldn't travel thousands of miles just to train! He has been in talks with our negotiation team all along.
  • If true that we have offered a bigger transfer pot, that's encouraging news for whoever we do appoint.

This we have learnt, I think:-

    1. The sacking of Parkinson was not premeditated but a response to the malaise the new owners saw on the pitch and possibly detcted in the dressing room, too.

    2. Dennis Wise was not lined up as most of the critics of the new owners on here alleged. Nor was anyone else.

    3. Hence the new owners were not ''liars''.

    4. From the deal they have allegedly offered Howe both on his salary and tranfer pot, there is some decent money behind the new owners - certainly enough to ''buy'' our way out of this division, it seems.

So even if we do not get our man today, there have been some very positive signals to emerge over the last week since Parkinson was sent packing.
  • according to sky Howe is one of up to six candidates . so it seems the board have plan B C D E F in place if plan a fails.

I don't think this is a division that is in anyway easy to buy out of.

But it helps. Saints, Brighton, Huddersfield all spent money this season & even now Sheff Wed have be signing players.

Yesterday i was really positive about the appointment but my opinion is this

Since Thursday or Friday last week Howe has known about the situation and interest of all parties, He is in such trauma and dilema that he is looking like coppel at Man Citeh, If the decision or wrench to leave Bournemouth is so huge he should stay there because he is not ready to move, If he had left AFCB then i could understand more taking longer to pick between 2 clubs, But he hasnt , If he goes Place good luck to him but i wopuld want him to fail just because I hate them. If he stays at AFCB i would like him to succeed because he wouldve made a decision with his heart and he truely Loves the place so good on him.

What i will say is this is no good for CAFC now we are part of a circus and are wasting time focusing on another appointment and what exactly are we saying to our other choices it looks like they are being treated very 2nd class.

We need to Move on if the words about the Wycombe manager are true god help us

    So true.
  • I'd be really disappointed. He might turn out to be a club-changing manager. He might turn out to be too inexperienced and outside his comfort zone. I'd take that, because as we've found post-curbs they don't come around very often.

I'm only 50/50 on this one, if we get him fine. if Palace get him I'm not going to lose sleep and I'm not sure we as a club should either.
  • I don't think we'll lose him to Palace. I think that he's more likely to stay at Bournemouth.

He'd be a good appointment but not too great a loss. I'm not sure that he could cut it outside of his comfortable little club anyway.
  • He,s staying at the Cherries.
    Extending his contract.
Hes used everyone to get an increase in wages.
  • We can wave at him as they come down and we go up.
