[cite]Posted By: queensland_addick[/cite]Mr Charlton. Still got letters that he sent me from 40 years ago. How many of todays players would take the time to hand write letters to their fans?
To be fair to them most of them probably can't write properly.
I thought this listening to it las night. Just sounds like a genuinly nice gent and i'm proud to have him associated so largely with our club..
It can be a bit disillusioning having contact with players you have watched from afar - often not their fault, you just forget that they are likely to have the same human frailties as the rest of us.
In Keith's case - and Colin Powell's, among others, to be fair - I've never been remotely disappointed. Notwithstanding Curbs' long-term success, Keith probably should have got the manager's job in 1991. We'll never know what might have happened if he had.
His presence added to making it feel like a proper Charlton day for me yesterday. (Including the numerous studying of the train time tables I did beforehand)
Classic old guy behind KP's head, donkey jacket & woodbine combo! Just to the right a nice trilby, jacket & tie ensemble as well....those were the days.

Agreed, but at the time we were so skint that we probably could not afford the extra fiver a week that he was demanding!
Love that photo! When I first started going to Charlton Keith Peacock was the cornerstone of the team. A class player, a real Charlton man and a real gent. Sadly I don't think we'll never know if he would have been a great Charlton manager. But we all know he's a great Charlton ambassador and true legend!
As I was saying, why not make KP caretaker until the end of the season, with Damian Matthew as caretaker first team coach. Let them strengthen certain positions (FB, RMF and striker) and go for it. Take stock at season's end. Wouldn't it be beyond great if KP got us promotion?!

Maybe if we were skint and didnt just get new investment.
Im sure the new owners were aiming higher (altough im not 100% after interviewing Howe 1st choice?)
[cite]Posted By: cfgs[/cite]I gathered that I meant I hope he is up for doing it for one more game
Its a shame that we don't have a home game on Saturday as i would like just once to see Keith managing at the Valley.
I was at sponsors evening a few years ago on Curbs table. Curbs had been on a scouting trip abroad and was delayed at the airport, keith came over to our table to apologise that Curbs was not there and that he would be their in an hour, he started off by saying "Hi I'm Keith Peacock!" - Given the age of the people at the table no one would have not known who he was, but he modesty of the man came over in that moment.
My only other claim to keith Peacock, was that when I did a Staurday job at C&A Lewisham a guy I worked with told me about how he was in the next bed to Keith in hospital when he had his in growing toe nails done (not sure if it was Keith or the guy with the ingrowing toenails). I also worked at C&A with a guy called paul Hines who was a Charlton fan, not seen him since we beat Man U at Old Trafford!

Just think, no Dowie or Pardew....... and we may still be a Prem side today.

They used to have big balls back then.
