Michael Brown - Portsmouth

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
Apparently he is available - not likely to feature - i think he's exactly the sort of player we need to stick in centre mid - can put his foot in and will offer more creatively than Semedo for instance, particularly at home - put semedo back into defence.

We were after Brown years ago when he was at Sheffield United but they would not sell him, that was in the Curbs days obviously.

I like him as a player, but I reckon he'd be attracting other Championship clubs.

Better than McCormack, that's for sure.

i think you need to keep your nose out unless you've got something sensible to say - attitude?

  • Portsmouth cant afford his reported 25k per week. He wont take a cut, hence he is available. If people think we are all of sudden going to start paying wages in excess of 5-6k (if that) whilst in division 3, they are deluded.

Is he still on that? Thought Portsouth players were all capped at 10k afte they went into administration.

Thats not exactly Semedo's job is it? You should be talking about Racon or Oxotower. Semedo is there to battle, win the ball and give it to our more creative players. He is the Anchor man. He is our version of Makelele. If we cannot create a goal through the centre midfield is isnt all down to him. Maybe we should buy Brown, and have Brown and Semedo in the middle

so the prem players that our new owners are looking to get on loan are just going to be the ones earning under 5K then? 4 months of a part of his £25K a week wages isn't going to break the bank if we are serious about going up. Have a re think.

No wage cap. He reportedly signed a 4 year deal on 25k per week. He has refused a pay cut - story was around a couple of weeks ago. Pompey have a number of players still on crazy money. Utaka is apparently on 40k.
  • I dont care how much he is on. Hes a bit of a dick and id rather have Jose. Thats my opinion. If you disagree, so be it

i know he's a spiteful little pest but so is wise and he can play so again, i want him to be successful for my football team, not marry my daughter.

What you'd spend on his wages, you could actually buy a decent player for. That's crazy money for this league, it's crazy for the championship.
  • Firstly - brown is a nasty piece of work. A mercenary and a dirty player
Secondly - Pompey can't play him otherwise it triggers a clause in his contract which they can't afford
Finally - the chap you are being trappy towards happens to be one of the people responsible for his website and without whom there would be no Charlton Life. Some respect probably wouldn't go amiss.

Some people really shouldn't drink on an empty head

maybe your right. i like semedo but in my opinion, at home, we aren't good enough to afford the luxury of a player who is just a screen fo the defence. away from home yes, at home it doesn't work. mcormack is a waste of time so he's not even in the equation for me.

    1) I haven't been drinking
    2) I know who lookout is
    3) i don't care who somebody is, if they talk to me like i'm a schoolkid, they can expect the same back
    4) i have nothing but respect for Afka, lookout and all the other people who put time and effort into this site and supporting charlton but again, somebodys position or whatever is irrelevant to me and i've just responded to what she has said to me.
    5) If i'm going to be pulled up like that and they want to ban me i couldn't care less because it would be ridiculous and extremely sesnsitive, hopefully she has a look and realises that she was out of order. i'm a reasonable person and do not expect to be chastised for some harmless banter.

I do understand. I do agree to an extent. We arent that great anymore. Our defence is so creaky its like a wooden door from the 1800's. If we had someone in the middle along side Semedo then i think it would show more. Racon tries to do what Semedo does just with a little more flamboyance. If we ever had a few games without Jose im sure you would see and understand why his role is so important to us. It has been for a few years now

i know it would be a gamble taking him out of there but lets be honest, our home performances are painful and i'm convinced the new management team will look to bring fresh faces into the middle of the park.
  • If Semedo's performances are a problem at home, then I do not see how signing a like for like player such as Brown will change this. Like Brown as a player but we could not afford him and do not think we need him.

Personally, although this season Semedo has been better away from home, I really do not think the answer to our poor home performances would be to drop Semedo. Think Racon at home is more of an issue as is the right side of midfield and upfront.

Semedo has been and remains one of our best and most importaint players. The new manager must make his new contract a priority.
