what now for Phil Chapple?

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
Parky, Breaker and Kinsella have gone but no mention of Chapple that I've seen.

Wonder if he will stay until the new boss turns up or hold on to his role?

  • Depends on new guy wanting him

    Depends on Parky nicking him

Most people seem complimentary regarding his knowledge so maybe he's safe for now
  • Same with regards Ben Roberts. May be an indication that the new owners were telling the truth re Parky. Would they have allowed him to appoint Roberts if they intended sacking less a few days later. Havnt they either given themselves another contract to settle or foist a coach on a new manager who may not really want him.
  • Not sure about Chappell, will obviously depend on new manager and his own ideas/set up. Guess he is still with us, as his name was not mentioned earlier this week.

However regarding Roberts, this may only be his second gk coaching job but has an impressive CV with his degree and knowledge. Also not sure we could attract anyone better so would imagine he will stay.
  • I'm not convinced by his ability to spot talent. Why haven't we been able to spot a Charlie Austin or Steve Morrison rather than a Chris Dickson or Stuart Fleetwood?
  • A Morison over a Fleetwood is a fair point. Austin was a one off, its very rare to find a player at county league level 9th tier) who steps up to the FL, especially as quickly as Austin did. There must be thousands of players at that level.

I know what you mean though, would be interesting to know who recommended Dickson, Fleetwood, Dorian Smith (remember him?!) and even McLeod (not non league I know) to Pardew.

I wonder how much they actually watched these players. I didn't see Smith play but first few times I saw the other three they really didn't look like they'd be good enough.
  • Fleetwood scored another double yesterday ;-)
  • Still don't think he'd score goals regularly at this level, especially not at a bigger club. To be fair to him he'll probably never get the chance.

Maybe we should have given him a chance, but what makes the signing so strange is Pardew signed him to play in the Championship and potentially the Prem. Same with Dean Sinclair.
  • Our scouting has got to be improved , as has our coaching
  • I'm fairly certain that Dickson was a Pardew spot and to be fair Dickson was a prolific scorer for Ham;ets and when he came here the club said he was a risk. I think that the problem was that we gave him too much time and should never have extended his contract.
  • Who spotted Paul Williams?
Who didn't spot Ian Wright playing next door for Woolwich Borough?????
