Hughton, Wise, Clarke, Hoddle or Wilkins ?

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
looking just at these five candidates widely discussed on charlton life, they are available and booky-fancied - which of them would you prefer as the team manager?

  • Hughton
    Clarke
    Hoddle

    Anyone else

    Wise

    in that order
  • In order of preference

    Hughton
    Clarke
    Wise
    Hoddle
  • Hughton might get a Premier League job today when Grant is sacked, so strike him off the list
  • Hughton or Clarke for me. If not them one of the promising managers at a smaller club, there's a few though but don't know enough to choose between them.

Not really sure why but I can't imagine Wise or Hoddle doing a good job for us.
  • Hughton
    Wilkins
    Clarke
    Hoddle

    Wise

    quite possible
  • Woy Hodgson will be available tomorrow.
  • Good to see us linked witht the usual unimaginative high-level names ehilr at the same time Palace look likely to wheel out Eddie Howe as their manager.

Houghton, wise, hoddle blah blah, looks like its being forgotten already that our ONLY priority is to get out of League One.

Had a look on Newsnow, Sousa now being linked with the job and Howe apparently said he'd be in charge of Bournemouth for their game on Saturday.

  • Jim Gannon has just taken over at Port Vale. Surprised he didn't get a mention.
  • Hughton streets ahead for me - if we act quickly, and have money to offer him, then it could be attractive for him.

ditto - although it is reported that him and Sousa have been interviewed for the Palace job.
  • Hughton - OK so he got Newcastle promoted with a large premier league quality squad. He did OK but not the superstar that he is being made out to be
Wise - Been around the block but I'm not really a fan.
Clarke - Good number 2 to Mourinho but does he have the knowledge of lower league players required? Can he step up?
Hoddle - His academey is going well - I see no reason for him to jack it in and come here. Sunny Spain or League one Charlton with a new chairman with an itchy trigger finger?
Wilkins - Again a decent number 2 and seems to talk a good game but not exactly tried and tested.

Poyet, Howe or Tisdale should be contacted first above any of these 5
  • Let's employ them all and create a super management team with each manager taking charge each week. The ones who don't get results can be struck off until the one with the best results remains...
  • [cite]Posted By: Elthamaddick[/cite]In order of preference

    Hughton
    Clarke
    Wise
    Hoddle

    this
  • I said I'd like either Howe, Poyet or Billy Davies - I think any of those would be very good.

Steve Clarke, if he had the right person alongside him again I think would be good.

Houghton also - he did a fine job at Newcastle.
  • I agree with Swisdom. I'd prefer Howe, Tisdale, Poyet, O'Driscoll etc to an old has-been, maybe Hughton excepted.
  • Slavan Bilic
    Hughton
    Billy Davies
    Clarke
    Wise/Wilkins
  • Don't have a preference one way or the other. Whoever gets the job will need funds to improve the squad and I'll back them to be successful. My only concern is whether the funds are provided by the new owners or simply added to the existing debt of the club. I want us to be successful but not at the risk of the long term future of cafc.

    Best idea yet ;-)

They could make a reality show out of it and pay off the debt in one - get cowell's TV company to fund 2 transfers a week for each manager...win win.
  • all these names seem too big for us there must be money!!! wahey let the good times roll, we cld even get jonjo bk on loan nxt season now that wld be nice wouldnt it. cant see us parting poyet from brighton and stealing have their squad.
  • Hughton or Clarke for me 2!
  • My first thought was 'Not Hoddle!' but after looking over his record again I realise we would be seriously deluded being sniffy about an ex-England manager with his record is reviving Swindon, Chelsea and Tottenham.

We would be lucky to have him, even if he is a nutbar.
  • Hoddle for me

superb managerial record and would have us out of this league in a flash and probably finishing no lower than 6th in the Championship next season
  • I think there are two things here that need addressing. If we just want a quick fix to get us out of the division then the candidate, for me, would be different to the long term candidate.I would like someone to come in and totally change the way we play. We play the passing game at U16 and U18 level with Steve Avory and Damien Matthew and i would like someone to come in and promote that style of play with the first team. That person would be Glenn Hoddle. He also has the gravitas to deal with the first team.

I thought this as well, if Poyet is not a possibility I'd choose Howe in front of the big names above. If it were a choice between us and Palace who would he choose?

The Nigels are in the Championship but there's a strong possibility that we may swop come May. Our crowds are bigger despite the league difference and I'm guessing we now have more money behind us than Jordan will spend.
  • Why would someone like Bilic come to us when always being linked with ex club West Ham
Also Davies leaving promotion chasing Forest to join us.

Hoddle for me - paid price for stupid comments before, but at least we would play some football under him.

At least he and Eileen could tell us right now if we'd be promoted in May.
