Plymouth promotion

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
I wonder if we'll see an attempt to get the new era under way with some big crowds eg. buy a Plymouth ticket get a free Colchester ticket ? With the early excitement of a new regime perhaps it could generate a couple of thousand sales, depending on who the new manager is, and perhaps the Spurs result.

  • I thought you meant Argyle are going to go on a 20 match winning run and win the League!
  • got a good result last night, 2-0 down away to Bristol Rovers to win 3-2.

as for the OP, similar to Yeovil game deal, people won't really be that interested.
  • Yeovil game offer was rightly only available via ST holders, as a one-off for a new regime that restriction isn't necessary, so the club could expect a better take-up. On the same basis, they could offer half-STs on generous terms perhaps.
  • I still think the best promotions are those which let schools in on a special price. Even if we start to look better we would still have 6,000 plus empty seats which apart from anything else lower the atmosphere in the Ground. It's pretty sure that if you give them the overall experience of attending a game, some of them will be hooked like we all were and become supporters for life. There must be tremendous potential just from South London and North West Kent, and surely we should be approaching all the Schools. Coach, ticket and programme for £10.
  • did they stop the kids for a quid thing?

i think that was a tremendous offer

    Good idea.
  • It will be interesting to see if the new regime bring in some decent marketing with some creative ideas to fill the ground

    I did read that, didn't I ?

    ;o)
  • ... or appoint a hugely popular manager :-)

Not sure any cut-price promotions needed to draw people in, just lots and lots of publicity and marketing - would be great try to get 20k.
  • We have a few things in the pipeline, but it would not be right in my view to change the arrangements for Plymouth a week before the game when tickets for this game and Colchester have already been sold. I hope and expect we will get a boost for Pymouth - I'd be pleasantly surprised if the crowd got near 20,000.

I don't believe a lack of "decent marketing with some creative ideas" is or has been the issue. The great problem in recent years is that there has been very little to market. I believe that will change now, but we continue to issue 1,000 tickets to primary schools every game across five London boroughs and NW Kent.

We also offer group promotions to schools and junior football clubs anywhere at £12 per head including coach travel - there are five coachloads coming from Kent and Sussex to Plymouth. This is on a much smaller scale than in the past because the appeal of League One football is much lower, but it's out there.

  • If he's got targets in mind already, our new owners could do worse than get a couple of players in next week. The sight of CP, some fresh blood and a win with even 16-17000 there would have the word being passed on with a view to growth thereafter. The momentum starts here, now is the time to draw the bums back on seats.
