The end of a decent man......................

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
We will never know. Make no mistake, there isn't a single person who can post here and know what Parkinson might have achieved with some money. This decent man has lost his job having done well to keep us at the top of L1 without any cash at all. In fact, he even had Bailey, Richardson, Shelvey and Sam ripped away when he had got the team playing well. ( end of last season ).
It probably is time for change. But I will not watch a Charlton game with Wise in charge. The football has been dire, and god knows how we are at the top. But if we had beaten Swindon, we would have been 2nd having lost one in ten or so games. Does seem a bit unfair.
I would have sacked Francis, Docherty, Semedo, Reid, Wagstaff, Benson, Martin and Sodje !!!!!!!!
Sam Allardyce - lump on.

  • It's not the end of a decent man - unless you are suggesting he won't get another job.

It's the end of one of the most depressing eras in Charlton history and Parkinson will carry on being a decent man at Preston or Palace or somewhere else. Good luck to him (unless he really does apply for the Palace job!)

Meanwhile, our club has the chance to refind its ambition, its spirit and its sense of purpose.

We have not just suffered some bereavement. We have entered an exciting new chapter and I can't wait for the next home match where I expect a completely changed (and better) atmosphere. Haven't been able to say that for a long time...
  • The expression on Parkinson's face during yesterday's match told all. He knew he was finished at Charlton.

you mean the lack of expression!
  • Sorry but factually incorrect.

Parky did have money. Last season he choose to spend that money on retaining the services of players on Championship contracts rather than selling them and using the money to buy other players.

Yes he is a decent man, and he will remain one. Being decent doesn't stop you losing your job as anyone who has suffered redundancy wil tell you.

As for sacking players, who hired them? Can't say he had no money and then blame the players he brought and retained.

As for "if we had beaten Swindon"... If the board had judged Parky on his time as caretaker manager as they said he would he would never have been given the job in the first place.

You are right. None of us know. Just as you don't know that he would have done well if he had money to spend.

But there is just the glimmer of a clue. Parkinson did spend some money ... on Benson. Enough said.

Decent man - maybe. The Manager to take this club back to the Championship and beyond? Never.
  • What about Dennis Wise ? How would the wonderful atmosphere be then?? Or Pardew ( Oh yeah...I remember that great atmosphere ) or Dowie ( I remember that great atmosphere as well ).................
I suspect you were calling for Curbishleys head as well ???

Funny enough, I think it's time for a change. I will reserve my judgement on getting rid of Parkinson for when a new manager is named. I suspect it won't be Allardyce or O'neill, or even Curbishley. If we have just done a Newcastle, it will be Hutchins !!!!
  • Funny how no-one ever claims to be in the group calling for one thing or another.
Remeber when all of the North Upper was calling for us to give Pardew the job????
