Spare a thought for AFKA and Lookie - please.

When we were relegated from the Prem, apart from the sorrow, two things stand out in my mind, Chrissy Powell's goal and the supporters, standing as one singing 'Always look on the bright side of life'. The community of Charlton was so apparent. Of course, events started to wear us down and I became one of the supporters who migrated from the relentless negativity of the OS and 'Your Views' to Charlton Life. Charlton Life for me was simply amazing, fantastic humour, articles from AFKA that I really enjoyed, near the knuckle banter and above all some really well informed discussion amongst knowledgeable football supporters. Sometimes it was just letting off steam, sometimes cheery, bouncy bouncy stuff, but that sense of a community shone though.

But now it seems to be disappearing. We just seem to have more and more nastiness, ill informed juvenile and vicious comment plus seemingly endless back biting. Posters are leaving or just not bothering to look anymore. It all seems a far cry from what AFKA and Lookie have invested so much time and effort into. Amidst this plethora of self-indulgent splenic exercise, can we please just spare a thought for AFKA and Lookie and make a decision, here and now, to re-discover the unique community that is Charlton Life? Because they're worth it.

    Well said, Stilladdickted.

I have been thinking the same myself.
  • Also, well done for keeping the site online today. Yes, it has creaked & stumbled a couple of times, but it is still here!

Now go give the hamsters some more charlie! ;o)

    well said and completely supported
  • What Oggy said.
  • Totally agree
  • A yes from me.

a bit more civility wouldn't go amiss - especially to human beings who happen to be employed by football clubs
  • Well said stilladdicted and totally agree but sadly many of those, who this post is aimed at, have either left the board or are still on here and will totally ignore this. I really believe that the shift in the type of fans we have, can be seen on this board and in the stands, and its a very negative shift.
  • the community within Charlton has changed within the past few years.
i see it every Saturday, now sadly its reflected onto CL.

With a lot of the other forums dwindling and closing people have all congregated here.
Unfortunately that means you get a slick of suet that waters down the good stuff.

Its naughty but maybe you should just stick a load of adverts up and make the site work for you,
someone with more time could migrate all the decent stuff and people to a new site.

  • Rubbish

    Booooooooooooooo

Who do you think you are - you sit in West Lower so aren't even a real fan!

    :-)

Ps - I echo the sentiments of stilladdicted!
  • Could we have some more Parky threads please
  • Completely agree with the above, rarely post anymore myself and only really check in on match day now. Big big shame for those who've put in a lot of time and money creating such a quality forum.
  • Totally agree with the comments above. I tend to keep out of the football/manager/boardroom arguments because of the reasons cited previously. Strangely, in some of the non-football threads, there is still quite a civil atmosphere and sensible debate. Pity this wasn't the norm.
  • I agree with everything that has been said. CL has become a victim of its own success and there is little
banter now, with disagreements declining into personal abuse. Sad but inevitable I am afraid.
  • I prefer discussions about subjects other than football and Charlton anyway. Some very funny individuals on here and the more leftfield threads are where they tend to reside.

this the football just causes arguments

i want more of ketmans lesbian chasing and more goat stories from gumbo

Carts you aint given us a good story for ages

i blame the admin team for not pushing all football posts down the page
  • Yeah I'll have to work on that mate!

I've been with the missus a year now and she has gradually strangled me to the point where I don't get in some of the situations anymore. New years resolution number 1 is to fix that.

I want to talk about the pro's and con's of bloodsports, ketmans love life and the other trivias that we come across. Bloody football always ruins a good drink up too
  • yep as it will Sunday ;-(
  • Can we go back to perving over Liz from the Apprentice?

I must say that I am sick to my stomach of all the negativity, why come on here and slag everything off, why go to a game and boo at the first opportunity. In all my time following Charlton I have now reached a point where I am embarrassed by my own fans. People pay good money to go and watch a game, yes we have been very poor and it is frustrating and people are entitled to there opinions. However you don't go on holiday and when you are not having fun go and ruin it for everybody else.

Please please please lets just get behind who ever is in charge and not boo after two or three miss placed passes.

  • Well said SA.
Thanks again to AFKA, Lookie & Admin for this site.

    PS. Carter, I'm anti "Bloodsports"......

    Well said.
  • Well said SA

Lookie/AFKA, keep up the good work - best site around since it started and still way out in front.
  • I agree wholeheartedly with the creator of this thread.
  • SA spot on. Just reading the Thank You Parky thread, and it sadly shows of how in recent months it has become more of a issue for people to score points against each other.

This is a quality site, and i enjoy reading the views, and doing the Prediction league. Let's hope we can get back to good banter and laughs, without going overboard on fellow Charlton fans.
  • Have to agree with SA. I left Your Views many moons ago because of total disrespect from certain posters and would hate to see that degree of personal abuse on here.

Let's nip it in the bud - agree to disagree but please don't go below a certain level otherwise I fear CL may have it's plug pulled.
