There are lots of threads about players' individual abilities and Parky's tactical nous and motivation etc but for me, one of the things that we are missing are leaders on the pitch. I'm not talking about being the captain but real leadership.
If you look back over our recent history, we've had players that can inspire and motivate others around them. Think of Mark Kinsella, a good individual player, but an inspirational leader, always driving players on. He was backed up by people like Chris Powell, Robbo and Di Canio who provided personal example and peer pressure in equal measure. I thought Deon Burton was a bit of a leader on the pitch too - providing advice and guidance in a way that Jorge Costa did for our defence.
Parky may decide the pre-game plan and tactics but we don't seem to have anyone with a football brain capable of directing things on the pitch. Nobody seems to take control of situations - it's almost like each individual has to make decisions in isolation without taking account of what's happening on the pitch. Without effective leaders on the pitch we end up following the plan even when it's not working.
Do any of our squad look capable of leading from the front?
